Lowenhardt DVII

In WWI Aero No. 201, there is a nice print by Russell Smith of Erich Lowenhardt's yellow DVII. The caption says it's a Fokker DVII. I know the DVII was built by three different companies, so I'm wondering if Lowenhardt's is actually Fokker built. Also, could anyone point me to more sources of information about Lowenhardt and this DVII?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi, There have been numerous threads on this forum about Loewenhardt's various Fokker D.VII's (there's little doubt he would have flown more than one in his career). However, photos are frustratingly elusive.

In my opinion, it's certain that Loewenhardt would have flown a Fokker-built D.VII. Jasta 10 was among the very first units (if not THE first) to be equipped with D.VIIs (early ones, from the Fokker factory) and they continued to fly Fokker-built D.VIIs.

Do a Forum archive search, and you'll find lots of erudite comments from Dan-San and others about Loewenhardt's Fokker D.VII's.

Fokker built Fok.D.VII

Hi SE5a:
I agree with Greg, initially in mid May Jasta 10 was eqquipped early Fokker built Fok.D.VII machines. However, by August 1918, Jagdgeschwader Nr.1 Richthofen was being re-equipped with Fok.D.VII with BMWIIIa engines in the Fok.D.VIIF4250/18 to 4299/18 serial number range. I feel quite sure that Oblt. Erich Loewenhardt was flying one of these machines with yellow fuselage, tailplane, fin, wheel covers and struts when he collided with Ltn.Wentz on 10 August 1918.
Blue skies SE5a,
Dan-San
