Muller markings

Hans Müller used a band of angled white and black stripes on the fuselage of at least three a/c in J.15, Albatros D.III, Pfalz D.III, and Fokker Triplane. Is there any evidence that he did or did not use this band (and tailplane stripes) on his J.18 red/white Pfalz D.IIIa or Fokker D.VII?

My Gallery
Ltn.Hans Müller's Fokker D.VII??

Hi Baldeagle:
On the cover of SPAD VS FOKKER D VII by JON Guttman is an
illustration of Ltn. Hans Müller's Fok.D.VII with the black and white angled band which he had on his Pfalz, D.IIIa and Fok.DR.I. The cover art is by Jim Laurier. I would presume Jim has a photo of Hans Müllers D.VII or he would not have painted the Jasta 18 red and white Fok.D.VII with these markings. I think that answers your question.

Dan-San

Know Jim

Dan/Andrew -

I know Jim and while he's a very talented artist, he almost always relies on the "kindness of strangers" for his WW I doc. I suspect Jon G or someone Jon knows well provided the markings scheme for him to work from.

It's always about the source.....

Happy Holidays All,
Mike

I thought as much.

Hi Mike:
I thought as much, I did not think he would venture into the unknown.
