Early SSW D.III.
Hi belis4rius:
Jasta 19 was issued the early SSW D.III machines in about April 1918.
Ltn. Walter Geottsch used white as his Jasta 19 color. His SSW D.III 8346/17 had natural aluminum U/C struts, spinner, engine cowling, intake fairings and top and botton cowlings. The fuselage, upper fin, lower fin, stabilizer, and rudder were painted white. The wheel covers, upper and lower wings, elevator, cabane and interplane struts were covered five color printed fabric on the upper surfaces with matching rib tapes and plain fabric on the under surfaces.
The fabric was attached to the upper wing diagonally at 45 degrees to the leading edge slopping to the right to the trailing edge thus\. The fabric was applied to the lower wing, upper and lower ailerons and elevator spanwise.
The wing and rudder balken crosses were 600mm x 200mm. The crosses on the upper and lower wings were surrounded with a white border 150mm wide.
The was no fuselage cross. Ref. Jagdgeschwader Nr.II by Greg VanWyngarden, Osprey Publishing, Aviation Elite Units, 2005, New York, NY.
