BFW Halberstadt CL.II

I'm still playing with the CL.II profile even though it's not finished yet.
Does anyone have any info on BFW built factory markings and stencils?

Check page 22 of Windsock Datafile 27.
Is that a BFW logo on the rudder or a patch? A repair patch forward of the cross on the tail?
Is that writing on the fuselage aft of the cross, the manufacturers mark and serial? Data stencil? Polish service CL.IIs with the original German markings have a data stencil but are these new Polish stencils or the original BFW stencils?

I guess this is just for fun unless someone knows for sure.

My Gallery
Beautiful piece of work.

Hi Dave:
That is a beautiful piece of work. I'll have to chase the patch?? down and see what I think. That looks like a Halb.Cl.II, of course, built by BFW.
Happy New Year Dave,
Dan-San

BFW Halberstadt CL.I

Hello Dave,

I say no more at this forum...

Your color profile is beautiful but:
1) BFW Halberstadts don't have canvas tape (covering Faraday's cage)
2) Fuselage rib nails still are like on CL.IV not CL.II etc.
3) BFW logo - you can find using Google and BMW pages...
4) Is that writing on the fuselage aft of the cross, the manufacturers mark and serial? Data stencil?
Yes Stencils at the fuselage of Polish Halb. CL.II BFW are original and in German planes are painted according to production batch. The data stencil painted at white strip (Polish marking) is not original.

Happy New Year!

Thanks Dan-San! I do remember you mentioning that the BFW CL.IIs were a bit of a mystery as far as if they were used operationally by Germany and their factory finish.

Piotr, I knew you would have the inside information since the Polish CL.IIs were from the BFW production. Thanks!
I do plan on doing one or more Polish CL.IIs. The one you attached is a good one. I did a skin for it to be used with the Polish front Targetware flight simulator. I am also interested in Bay 223/18 "55" although the photos I have aren't good enough to read the print under the Polish serial block or to tell what style the lettering is in.
Now that I see your profile I remember noticing that the generator cover on the BFW/Polish planes is different having raised bead lines around it's contour. I had forgotten that detail until now! I had also done the exhaust quickly just using the German BFW photos. I feel stupid for not noticing the BFW exhaust in the Polish photos!
Thanks again Piotr

Two pictures of Polish Halberstadt CL.II (Bay) machines. The second one has 'closed' wheels or even 'wooden' wheels, I can't say it for sure. National markings of Poland are differently applied in these two machines.

Pictures are courtesy of the Cracow Museum.

Cheers

Thanks Varese. I have those 2 pictures but unfortunately I can read the writing under the Polish serial panel or tell what the type face looks like. I need a good close-up of that area but I don't know if one exists.

Sure you can contact the Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego w Krakowie to obtain a high density scan of the original picture. Contact them here.

Of course even in high density resolution it is not sure that you can read the small letters

Cheers
