I have seen a profile on the internet of a Nieuport 17 with the triangular SPA 67 emblem on the fuselage. But I can't find it anymore, and it looks like I dind't save it. Anyone who knows which profile i mean?

Greetings Syde_Burns,

It looks like a Nieuport 17 to me, it does'nt appear to have the engine cowling/fuselage area of the Ni. 11 or 16. The cowling is not a full round piece, but looks like the Ni. 11 & 16, but the the fuselage sides behind the cowl look like the Ni. 17, 21, & 23.

There are so many Nieuports after the Ni. 17 that look similar to me.

Then again, I'm pretty easy to fool some of the time!

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ

The plane in the photo lacks the headrest and appears to have a horseshoe cowl. It might be a Nieuport 21, but I don't think that it is an N.17.

Th insignia in the photo does not match that in your first post (the birds wings appear to be stretched out for and aft in the photo). Are you sure that the plane in the photo is from SPA (or N) 67?

Hello Anton

From what I have been able to put together from my copy of E. Moreau-Berillon's book:

Ni. 67 formed in August 1915, at sometime between then and the end of 1917 it used the insignia I have scanned below.

At the end 0f 1917 Ni67 received Spad aircraft and its title changed to Spa.67 also at this time it became associated with G.C. 12 "Cigognes" and with that association the eagle of the Ni.67 insignia was changed to the Stork insignia of G.C. 12 and Spa 67 ended the war with 42 victories.

There may be a Ni67 with the stork insignia on it but my gut (and my gut alone) tells me it would be wrong.

Hope the above is useful

PS The photo you posted of the Nieuport a/c would be from Ni 67 and not Spa 67. From my understanding the units changed their designation from Ni. to Spa. when they replace the Nieupoets with Spads.

Yes, maybe the profile was wrong. But N.67 GC13 must have been flying Nieuport 17 because George Flachair scored victories in a Ni17.
There are three different pictures of SPAD:s with the pennant emblem in Osprey's "Groupe de Combat 12 'Les Cigognes' ". One of them is a SPAD VII with the "old" Ni.67 emblem.

And here is another SPAD VII from N.67

Yes they flew Nieuports between August 1915 and late 1917. They got the Spad in 1917 which changed them from Ni67 to Spa 67...then they were attached to G.C.12 at which time they changed the eagle to a stork.

Bonsoir à tous

The escadrille 67 had first used as emblem a brown and red flag with a golden bird of prey inside . The colors of the flag " negro " and "tango" were those of jockey's blouses of the racing stable of De Saint-sauveur who was CO of the escadrille at the beginning of 1916.
When the escadrille have been attached to the GC12 (June 1917) a stork replaces the bird of prey on the pennant - Each aircraft also bears the inscription 'SS 'for Saint Sauveur followed by the initials of the pilot.
The nieuport on your photo is a nieuport 21 I think

That would have to be a Nieuport 21 as I've never seen a 17 without a headrest. Not exactly an in the field modification. Horseshoe cowl etc. 21 it is.
