2006 Rhinebeck Jamboree
Hi gang,
I have been talking with a few of my local (Florida) club members about making a trip to the Rhinebeck Jamboree this year. I have not been there since 1996 and, from reading the internet forums, it appears that things have changed during the last 10 years.
Are these changes exclusive to the full-scale show or has the format of the model meet changed as well? The last time I was there they had a scale contest as well as a balloon bust, bomb drop, and spot landing contest.
I have been out of the loop for quite some time so I apologize in advance if these questions seem silly.
Sean

Hi Sean,
We plan to attend Rhinebeck this year. I was there a couple of years back and the full scale planes still do two demos each day and the models still have a lot of time to fly. This year is the 40th anniversary and a lot of fellas are planning to attend. Fun is always had by all... - Glenn

Hope to make it
I hope to make it for the Jamboree as well - if for no other reason than to see something fly at ORA and have my opportunity to thumb my nose at anyone who seems to deserve it..........

Not silly at all. The model portion has turned into a fly in as opposed to a competition these days. What used to be 6 circles along the runway is now 5 flight stations centered on the runway. Glen is right, fun is had by all. Depending on the crowd will control how often you may get to fly. I have seen it be as little as twice a day to as many as you handle.
The full scale show could be great or not. They have had a large turn over in the staff and no one is sure what aircraft will be available for the flying season. The good thing is that jamboree is late in the year and that gives them more opportunity to get aircraft airworthy. Last year wasn't as good as some years in the past. That's not necessarily a criticism, just a simple comment. Jim Hard is back in the announcers booth which is great!
George Busso is the CD this year. He had handed the job over to others the last few years but he is back at the microphone this year!
Not sure I will make it this year. The trip from DFW is not cheap. I have been I think 11 of the last 12 years. I do HATE to miss the 40th Anniversary, though!

Rhinebeck Dates
What are the dated for the Rhinebeck Jamboree in 2006? My wife and I went there to watch the full scales in 2004 and I got the bug to go for the R/C event sometime.
Also, anyone know what the R/V situation is there?
Dale

The date for this year's event is September 9 & 10, or simply the weekend after Labor Day. Here's another guy from Florida hoping to get up there this year, being it's the big four-oh of the event!

Miss mary and I are tenatively planning on going, so we could use a little information from you ole pro's.
Is there plenty of accomodations in the area and how far ahead of time do you need to make reservations, or should we have already done that by now???
Any help along those lines would be greatly appreciated.

Accomodations
Hi Del, This probably won't be much help, but Rose and I stayed at the bed and breakfast just across the runway, and up the hill from the hangars. It's called the Stone Church Road Bed and Breakfast. Nice folks own the place and we had a great stay. Ah! to wake to the smell of castor and the sound of rotary motors in the morning.
I have no idea how fast they fill up. You can find them by doing GOOGLE of Rhinebeck + bed and breakfast.
If I can swing a trip for the R/C event this year, I'll go in my truck camper.
Dale

Accomodations
My husband and I generally attend every year. We find that clean and relatively inexpensive accomodations can be had in Hyde Park, roughly a 20 minute drive to ORA. We tend to make our reservations relatively early each year, as the motels tend to fill up quickly, especially for fall reservations.

I just got word from the missus that we will go to Rhinebeck this year. We have have never been there before and are looking forward to it. I will be bringing the Hannover CL-II and the DR1. Sounds like a great weekend!
Thanks for the tip about Hyde Park. We're going to make arrangements right away.
Jim
