Sopwith Pup Kit Prototype

Hello All,
I hope no one minds me posting a picture here of the http://www.cdscaledesigns.com Sopwith Pup prototype model. We are still waiting for the plastic parts and will do some more nice glamour shots before we start covering and getting her ready for the maiden. The Pup will be available probably shortly after new year (how's that for timing, eh? ), although we are selling pre-production kits for those that can't wait.
CD-Scaledesigns is a new company in Germany that has four WW-1 model plans and kits in their current catalogue; the Pup, Snipe, SE-5a and the Fokker D.VIII. In the works is a Pfalz D.III and an Albatros C.I. As Saint Ray always says; 'watch this space'.

BTW: There's a Snipe prototype build going on over at RCUniverse.com. Have a look if you're interested.

Chris, If your post doesn't belong here, I don't know what does? By the way, where are you from Stuttgart? I spent two years near there back in the early 1970s.

Looking forward to more photos and further developments from your company!

What is the scale of the kit shown? I checked the link to cdscaledesigns, but didn't see any indication of size.

Talking Pup Proto.

Tom, It is 1/6 scale. I looked at the site also and the Snipe has got my interest.

Chris,
They both look great! Any plans to do anything larger like 1/4-1/3 scale?

Mike,
we've had a lot of people asking for 1/5th scale and larger versions, but if you get to 1/4th scale and larger, you're looking at the possibility of true scale wing profiles and structures, which would mean a complete redesign of our existing models. We may do a 1/5th scale series next year, but I doubt we'll ever do larger, because of the extra work involved.
Chris

I agree with all those asking for 1/5th scale. I think it is ideal for WW1 RC models. Now if only you would do an EII or EIII (with wing warping of course) and a BE2c. Then I could have the dogfight double I've always wanted since I first saw thew BBC series "Wings" in 1977.

BTW the kits look superb and I would happily order one if they were 1/5th!

Pup/Snipe

I agree, I would be all over either a 1/5th scale Pup or Snipe! Chris, you didn't answer my question about where in Germany you are.

Hi Mode One,

I live way up north in Northrhine-Westfalia, about 45 Autobahnminutes west of Düsseldorf right at the German border in a small place called Weeze. At one time several thousand Brits used to live here when that aerodrome down the road was still known as RAF Laarbruch.
You and Breguet might get lucky with your 1/5th scale kits as we've started to use 3-d software to make the patterns for the vacuum form molds. Here are some images of the molds for the Pup and Fokker D.VIII cowlings. First we used to make these molds by hand, but now we have them in the computer, it's easy to scale them up for larger kits. The files are converted for use on a five-axis milling machine which cuts out our female molds from a block of high density resin. Using negative molds makes surface details crisp and sharp.
