Well, after a couple weeks of fiddling I finally got the cabane struts done and ready for paint, the ailerons secure but traveling freely, the control cables free and non-binding,plus all the hatches and various other whatnot done on the top wing so it is ready for covering.WOOHOOO!!!

The Albie DIII has gone into the "get to it later section" so this will be the last post on this thread until I start it up again, whenever that might be.

Hi J.,
Your Dr.I is looking fantastic but I'm just going to bump up your thread here and state I am getting ready to start on my D.III, since I have one of those semi-kits and your beautiful work has gotten me inspired to plunge in. The color scheme is so hard to decide on, so many to choose from, but it's going to be lozenge-free, so that should narrow it down some. I have an OAW rudder drawn up so I was leaning in that direction. I know the OEF series didn't alter that aspect, they only upped the powerplant and fixed the wing problems and ended up with a superior product.
OK, back to that Dr.I and fly it so you can tackle your Albatros again... excellent choice on Loerzer's color scheme--very distinct.

Lyle,
I like the idea of the OAW rudder. Also,IIRC, OAW DIIIs had an axle fairing while the Johannistahl DIIIs didn't(I hope I don't have that backwards).

The worst thing about choosing a color scheme is that you only get to pick one!

I went to Lowe's today and found the correct size rod for the fuse assembly. Forget about copper tube or anything like that, the sizes are totally off. What's needed is what J. suggested, a hangar rod (tube) that comes in exact sizes. The holes in the formers are 49/64" and the tube is 48/64", or exactly 3/4". It's just a tad loose but can be worked with just fine.

If the laser can cut precisely, then in future kits I'd make those holes just a bit smaller, or 97/128".

Lyle,
I wrapped some masking tape around the tube to give a nice, snug fit.It also gives you a nicer surface on which to mark the former locations. I agree about perhaps changing the size of the hole as my neighbor is a plumber and I had all sorts of copper tube to choose from, free of charge, but none of them were quite right.Be sure to post some pics when you get the fuse framed.
