BUSA DR.1 olive streaking

Hello, I am getting ready to paint my Balsa USA DR.1 soon and I had a question on the olive streaking. I will be covering the model with solartex Linen and then applying the streaking on top of that. In terms of scale color, what is the accurate color for the streaking-Olive green or brown??

Thanks for your help.

P.S. No, I have not decided which plane I am modeling yet.

flygilmore,
You might consider moving or re-posting your question on the Flying Models sub-forum. Although the modelers here are typically quite knowledgeable with details like that too.

Be sure to have a look at Del Johnson's GTM 1/3 scale Dr1 build thread too.

Here are two original Fokker Dr.I Triplane top and bottom fabric samples that have been posted before on this forum. I hope they help! The olive green paint is simply streaked over the natural linen fabric in unevenly applied thickness. Some areas are very lightly painted over the natural linen, while other areas have heavy application covering it nearly completely.

Regards, Gary Sewall

I used a paint chip from Glenn Torrence and had some Behr flat latex matched to the chip at HD.It was applied over the Solartex linen like you have. Finally a clear coat of Nelson's clear.

I am not 100% satisfied with the job I did but it's not too bad and the most noticeable top wing will be painted over with black and white.

Welcome to the 'Drome!

Dr I Wing Color

Flygilmore, There are many good books on the market with colored prints of the Dr. I, but in my opinion the best colored prints of the triplane wings are available in the Windsock Datafile on the Triplane. I am sure a call to Glenn Torrance will provide you with some good references. Regards, George
