Southern R/C Dawn Patrol ??

A few of us here in good ole' Floriduh have been tossing around the idea of hosting a Dawn Patrol (WW I and early years) R/C event somewhere in the deep south. As for time frame, probably very late fall or winter.

How many are out there would be interested in assisting with, participating in or generally being a part of such a cool weather event?

Also, any location or specific time suggestions?

Dale

Dale,
As always, there is interest on my part, being that I live in the Tampa area.

There are also some master WWI modelers here in the good ol' state of Flawdah. Since when has cold temps been a problem here??

A few years ago the Naples club tried a WWI fly-in, but interest sagged when it was more of a venue for a certain extremely rich modeler who has his models built by a team under his employ. Seeing a 1/3 SSW D.III flying like a Pitts is a MAJOR turn-off; add to that unsafe flying practices and I was glad to get back into the car.

Also the WMWA tried a warbird fly-in at Fantasy of Flight but I don't think it went over too well, either. Perhaps they would be more amenable to WWI? Kermit Weeks has been talking about a Dawn Patrol sort of event for a while...

I'm all for it, man! I'll be glad to volunteer to help out.

Lyle

When the Aerodrome events went on in 1992 and 1994 up in Alabama, there was a pretty good turnout of models, and modelers--Glenn Torrance, Dick Hansen, the Proctor gang. I was glad to see something like this closer to home than Rhinebeck, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Lyle,

I understand your concern about unsafe flying. Some CD's don't seem to take that issue seriously. I've seen some things at events that would just blow your mind. Personnaly when I CD an event, such as Warbirds Over the Panhandle in 2 weeks March 21-22 (shameless plug), I try to take care of that stuff quickly.

Hopefully, we can find the right combination of venue, date and other attractions to put together a nice ongoing event. We can't let the WW I guys up Nawth have all the fun Maybe, something with a fixed date, but floating venue?

Dale
