Thanks,Paul.
Any chance for a formation flight next month?I am not looking forward to filling up my van as it is on empty and has a 35+gallon gas tank, but I plan to still go down to Mollala.

John

Here is what I am working on.
Highslide JS
The rear four panels I made from aluminum while the front two are 1/64" ply that
I pre-primed.After this is done I need to do the final hook-ups of the control cables and it should be flyable.BTW,the way I am making the panels strays from the directions.

It flew! In the air it is sweet,on the ground, well it is a DRI.The landing gear wires kept stretching out(possibbly because it was 107 degrees on Saturday)and I ran out of adjustment on my turnbuckles after tightening them 3 times.I tried it to take off with loose wires and nosed it over.Only a little damage and very fixable.I also have to consider that it could be a rusty pilot as I haven't flown a DRI in over three years. It looks sweet in the air and sounds neat as I just have rather short pipes and no mufflers on the exhaust.

Congrats.

What are you using for landing gear wires that have that much stretch?

Could it be that you left loops in the ends and they are slipping closed?

Dale,
I am going to have to check to see if that's the case, but on other planes I have usually had to tighten them after the first flight and then sometimes after the second, and then they stay tight.

Braided wire stretches. I had the same issue on my DV landing gear wires. I recrimped the same wires and have been fine since. You will also see this in functional flying wires. I find myself retightening the first three or four flights and then not have to touch them until an "event" occurs.

We pre-stretched the wires for our models. Cut a few feet of wire and suspend them from the overhead, then hang as heavy of a weight the wire will accept on the end of them for a few days. Then they will be ready to use without additional stretching. Remember they will change their tautness along with the ambient air temperature. So you still may have to adjust them now-an-then.

Hey John, congradulations on a successful flight (any that you can repair is a success in my book)

Do you have any flight videos or pictures of the finished bird?
