Duplicolor

John, more than 30 years ago I used Duplicolor brand to change the color of a pair of bucket seats from light tan to black and I was amazed that sliding on and off the seats didnt flake and wear the color off but it was incredibly durable.

Duplicolor is a great idea John! I am going to try that on my 1/3rd scale tires. Or Tyres

Aviatik Ailerons

John,

Regarding the ailerons on your Aviatik, if you haven't done so already, you might want to check out the article from the Nov. 14, 1918 issue of Flight in which an illustrated report is made on a captured Aviatik D.1. There is a good perspective drawing of the aileron construction; washout was a feature of the D.I ailerons.

The drawing I'm referring to is found on page 1286 of the 1918 Volume. Hopefully this link works and will take you directly there:

1918 | 1286 | Flight Archive

I hope this is helpful.

Gray Wheels

Has anyone tried gray shoe polish for the wheels? I've read that it works well.

At Rhinebeck last year I asked the same question to some of the modelers, some had but, they said it flakes and wears off easy. Even on grass.

Grey tires

This is a BUSA Nieuport 11 with shoe polish (black plus white mixed) on AZM tires. The tread wears a little on the ground contact line, but is easily touched up. I got the idea from "deljon" who posted it during a build thread on the Glenn Torrence 1/3 scale Dr1 prototype (post 358)........John

Aviatik

Back from vacation and should have the wing done soon. I finished the right side first and then the left which I am adding the webs to now. I will be using ribbon to hold the ribs from twisting per the full scale after the rib caps are on.

Wing ribbons

Lokks good Fitz, what material are you using for the ribbons? I assume you will install them before the capstrips go on the ribs.....John
