Dear JTisch and Fellow WW I RC Fans:
The PIPE Here again...
...the DIRECT link to that video is at "triple-dub".youtube.com/watch?v=oep3-tE_zvI ...
...so, to get "the backstory" about this biggie, I checked the Yahoo MicroPro/MICROSTAR forum messages from back on Armistice Day (how

appropriate) this year, and the person responsible for building the RC Giant Gotha is apparently the Mercer County RC Society's (site at
MCRCS Home Page ) president, Keith Zimmerly. His RC Giant Gotha has a 19 ft wingspan, a flying weight of some 50 lbs (about 22 kg???) with a pair of 2.1 cu.in. (35 cm3) displacement two stroker gassers powering it.
And, I can HEARTILY agree with you, JTisch...a pair of Saito FG-36 gasser
FOUR strokes, and mentioned at
Horizon Hobby: FG-36 (220G) with Muffler/Ignition/MM: AK by Saito Engines (SAIEG36), with a video at "triple-dub".youtube.com/watch?v=3YhHx6iizeE of one running on a test stand, would be about the same displacement apiece as the "mentioned" two-strokers, and would be

perfect for it!
Also, that club seems to be a hotbed of World War I RC flying activity

these days...one person, who uses the
Gordon Anderson MicroStar OWNER-built computer RC radios (at
MicroStar Home Page ) with the EXACT same "innards" as my pair of single-stick "knobby" RC radios, in that club will be building up a Giant Scale scratchbuilt Sopwith Pup in 28% size to be flown with their 2.4 GHz "SpredSpec" transmitting MicroStar RC radio.
Hope there's enough links there to keep us all interested...the MCRCS homepage has a photo of Keith starting the takeoff roll with his Gotha at the time I'm writing this...!
Yours Sincerely,
The PIPE !
