Two new 1/2A WWI control line kits
Living up to his moniker, Larry the Red Baron at Black Hawk Models has added two 1/2A profile models of WWI monoplanes:
Black Hawk Models
Black Hawk Models
(Note: I do not endorse the accuracy of their accompanying texts.)
And for good measure, a PT-19:
Black Hawk Models
(By my own count, this is the third CL PT-19 kit introduced within the last year or so. What a vacuum Cox left open!)

The problem here is finding good 049 engines and the new Brodak 049/061 are not very good.

Cool.
I still have some old .049's and a lot of parts. Even have an .020.
I haven't flown a control line for decades. I still have a Cox PT 19, a 049 Stirling Ringmaster and a Combat Kitten (sans wing covering).
One day, I'll see how dizzy I get testing them out.

Good point. OK still makes several models of the Cub, but their future might be doubtful since the company's main focus is its model train line. An EBay vendor offers new Cox 049 engines, either from old stock or made from parts, but they're not cheap -- about $60 each. Used Cox 049's are plentiful on EBay for a lot less, but not cheap either -- $10 to $30, depending on the model, condition, etc. Other brands of 049's can be found on EBay, like K&B, Wen-Mac, and McCoy, but production of them ended decades ago with little or no current product support.
Thinking out of the box, PAW in England still makes its diesels, including 1/2A sizes. Electric power is starting to reach the 1/2A level as well.

Scuttlebutt gives them a checkered reputation at best. Brodak's Electric Clown CL stunt ship had some initial quality problems with both the electronics and the airframe. But we shouldn't single out Brodak -- Hangar 9's website describes two quality issues with its CL PT-19.

It can now be made public: CL was a spin-off of vertigo research.

I'm building a "Flite Streak" right now with a Fox 35 stunt engine.

Jan, been a long time since I've flown one of those.
Once, I tried to cover a wing on one with aluminum foil. Fortunately it was only the outer wing. It lasted about 2 laps.
I think I still have an old Fox 35 CL engine around here.
Wow, old memories spring from the depths.
