1/3 Scale Balsa USA Albatros

A friend of mine told me he saw a prototype of a 1/3 scale Albatros flown at Top Gun last year. He did not say if it was a DIII or DV. He said he was told it was slated to be released later this year. Has anyone heard anything about this kit?

At top Gun, David Johnson has flown both an 1/3rd Albatros DIII and DVa. Model Airplane News featured Dave's DIII. I'm uncertain if the DVa has been featured in any publications. This past spring it was rumored that Balsa USA was going to kit an Albatros, if this rumor is true, is anybody's guess. If so, it would be my guess the plane would be kitted in 1/4th scale, as that is generally how the bring planes to market.

David Johnson does frequent here and RCU at RCU, his handle is Cocobear.

I had heard it was DJ's D-III in 1/3 scale. Don't know what happened to it, but I will ask this weekend and report.

1/3 Scale Albatros DIII

Thanks guys for the info. If BUSA is going to do it I hope it is a DIII. I have a set of DJ's DIII plans from MAN on the way, but a kit would really be sweet. I really would like to see a Glenn Torrence Albatros DIII in 1/3 scale, but don't know if he can get away from his Fokkers. The details he has is incredible.

Glenn has a Fokker D.vII kit being developed along with an SE5a.

Albatros types are a more complicated kit. SE5a is too.

I have seen the pics of the GTM DVI, DVII and the SE5a, and all look great and are so detailed. But there is just something about an Albatros DIII that gets me. Even being more complicated just think of all the little details GTM could put into one.

And BTW my Powerball numbers are current and good for 4 more picks.

I'd love to see Balsa USA or someone, maybe even one of these outfits that does ARF's do a few monoplanes. I know I know they don't have the charisma of an Albatros, but are easier to build, setup, maybe even fly better.

For years I campaigned a Balsa USA Bristol M-1 at Rhinebeck. Flew the thing almost every week at the filed too just for fun. B USA made the Moran A-1 also which was a great flyer although I never had one.

Balsa USA aquired rights to my 1/3rd scale DV. What/when/how needs to be directed to them. I know they will go forward but the timing is unclear. I have implored them to not screw with it to much:-)

Thanks for the info DJ. I just received a set of your plans for the 1/3 Albatros DIII from MAN Friday in the mail. I am thinking of getting a short kit done by LaserUSA. But, I was trying to find a decent affordable kit.
