Good looking young man!
Mike, you are a good looking young man!
Is that a Dormoy Bathtub your flying? I always liked that aeroplane. I've wondered how they got the water out of it, now you can see the fuse is slotted. The googles do make you look fierce! Glad there is no armament!
Back to kitting that 1/4th scale Pfalz DIII, Fish!

A Pfalz D III would be nice but how would you cool a gas or nitro engine in it? Tom Polapink had to make a trap door in the nose which although it worked I am guessing not very well. So, do you really want to spend the money to make a kit that only a few will buy because of this issue? Those who spend the money and time to build it will find it a problem to fly much because of a cooling issue. Then again if you go electric problem solved I guess except for the expense of buying a few expensive battery packs and equipment. This issue exists for many subjects that would be cool to build and the reason you don't see them. Think about it, how many Pfalz D III's do you see flying and it's not because people don't have the talent to build them or plans are not available. Plus there are very few engines with enough power that fit in the nose if you want to keep it scale looking in the first place. If it were me and I was starting a business to make money I would stick with less complicated subjects to start. Just my two cents worth.

Why can't the cylinder stick out in the breeze, like the real Mercedes engine did? Certainly AMA Scale does not doc points for having a model engine protrude out the side, bottom, or top of the nose. Also, what is different about the Pfalz for cooling, in comparison to the Albatros Series of fighters, that precludes being successful? Many people are flying, building and campaigning Albatros DII, DIII and DV-Vas without cooling problems. For that matter, Seth Hunter and Dan Schmidt had/have Pfaltz DIIIas that have been successful models.
John, it's certainly O.K. if you would rather have another model kitted! Say what it is you would like to see and leave the other's opiniions alone. Fish Man is going to do whatever he feels will be successful!

Mode one, Not going to get into a Pissing match with you. Like I said its just "my two cents worth". There is no doubt Fish Man will do what he wants to as I am sure anybody else would also. Cheers.

I know that Dave Johnson runs his engines in his DIII and Dva Albatri rich to help in cooling. He rarely has temp issues, unless it the ambient temp is really hot.

Who is attempting to cause a pissing match? I simply (and in a civil manner) disagreed with you.

Mike, I am aware of DJ's success with the Albatros and how he fuels them. The Albatros has more open area behind the spinner and more space around the engine to let hot air escape. It too is very tight however. I am simply saying the engine compartment of a Pfalz D III is very tight and not very good for cooling a decent sized gas or glow engine. Maybe DJ will chime in here with his two cents worth. My opinion is it would not be a good choice for a "start up company" to kit. Again, just my two cents worth.

That's a good point John.
How about the OS IL-300 Dia-Star 4 cylindar engine? I'm sure we all have the extra $$ in hand for one of those beauties.
