Camel

Not a thing wrong with the Camel. I have three different sets of drawings for it from Tanzers fun scale to Reeves serious scale and one in the middle. Also got a bunch of data from WWI Areo off thier Master materials list. Just haven't done anything with it. The fun scale has been the hardest to resist, you could just fly the paint off it and not worry about too much time invested to relax about it. I've looked at a couple af Mick Reeves Camel builds on RCSB and I'm not sure I'd buy his kit, looks like some things were done the hard way to me. One that wasnt too hard to build and presented well in outline and offered reasonably scale framing in the cockpit area to work with would be tempting indeed.

I just bought a copy of Flying Scale Models and there is a write-up in this magazine about the British Dawn Patrol. These folks are all using 1/3rd scale WW1 birds in their Show Team. These are impressive airplanes and I think this is a great idea. I know that the 1/3rd airplanes are very popular with our Dawn Patrol Fun Flys over here.

I think a 1/3rd scale Camel would be a great selection! However Mick Reeves does already offer plans and parts for both 1/4th and 1/3rd scale Camels.

Mick is across the pond and the exchange rate is not that good. Thanks for putting me on to him. I hadn't heard of him before. He has some really good looking scale goodies in the kits.

Mick has been around a long time and has competed in our AMA Nats' a few times I believe! This was "Back in the Day" as the younger folks say now! I have a "Beta" video called "Grand Illusions" put out by the AMA and discusses "Scale" from the 1970s and Mick has a motorized sailplane he is campaining in AMA Scale on this video. Those of you who think model airplanes are so much better now then they were, really need to see how fantastic scale models were 30-40 years ago!

Camel

I've purchased several items from Mick, including one of his Torquemaster drive reduction units for the G62. His service is good and while the exchange rate can get you, sometimes it's not too bad. I used his PC10 paint on my 1/4 SE 5a and about a gajillion of the 000 screws and eyelets. I'm working on the guns for my 1/3 N28 right now and they're a hybrid mix of Micks vac formed parts and BUSAs wooden ones. I'd post a picture if I knew how.

Wow that is a big bird- will a DA 150 go in it or do you have something else in store? Like I said Mick has some great stuff. I have filed his name away in the old brain. I saw lots of goodies he has to offer. Makes me want to pull out the old credit card and go shopping!

yea Doc the first tripes were just pups with another wing then they tweek the length of the fuse a little but its basically still a pup fuse.

yea athe plan for now is a DA 150 it will be 60 inches tall 13.5" wheels 116" length and weight hoping to be as light as possible but the realistic feeling is 60-70 lbs

the spars will be balsa core with ply lams on outside will be nice and strong but really light weight. will have a lot of the routing throughout the plane too but that wont save much weight. im just hoping my ribs come in soon i am ancy to get them wings built

Doc

Doc theres new torque drive out there way better than micks now. the germans made it and fighteraces sells them. the guys in the UK are running them on their 3rd scale planes its like a 2.75:1 ratio and turns i think its a 34" prop. thats a ton of power coming out of a G-62
