Vickers F.B.19 MKII

Well, my original build thread is locked and I understand since I haven't posted anything in awhile. Work progress's however and here are a few photo's to show what has been accomplished. I am currently sorting out an "eyelet" issue. I estimate I will use about 450 eyelets on this bird. If anyone can recommend a setting tool for 3/32" eyelets I would appreciate it.

Time to get the wings done. Here are a couple of photo's with the bottom wings stuck on. 1/2" round composite spars are used. Lots of wing on this bird. The spars are run through the fuselage and are at the proper angles of incidence and dihedral. I'll show more photo's later of how the spars are installed in the fuselage.

Getting the center section of the top wing done. Just fitting parts together at this point. The strut hard points are hard wood blocks that I drilled 1/2" holes through. The spar passes through it and the blocks will be epoxied to the spar and the ribs. The Mick Reeves strut fittings will get screwed to the blocks. To late to do the same thing for the wings so I'll make the blocks and cut them in half and epoxy them around the spars. I will cut the ribs to make the big opening in the center section.

As you can see in the photo's the center section is flat which means the L/E is straight and does not follow the dihedral of the spars. So, each rib's spar hole needs to be "relieved" enough so as to not follow the spar. I have made shims that will allow each rib to be glued to the spars correctly. A piece of cap stripping under the ribletts keep them in the correct height from the table so the L/E stays straight when glued. I will notch the T/E of the front ribs and the L/E of the rear ribs for the window frame.

Very nice. That center-section cutout is the size of a picture window in a house.

Tricky wing! Hope you take video's of the maiden flight, its an interesting and unique plane to model.
