I am wondering if an occasional post here on what's going on with Targetware's WW1 sim would be welcome here.

It is currently in open beta and flyable at www.targetware.net

Fishing was good last July!

Too cold for that now

Good to touch base with you as well Rosie

Well, the news I have for you guys is basically that what you've come to know as Target:Flanders is making some progress.

The targetware mods originators (Vlasov and Jgro) have been inactive for a while (Real life stuff - gets us all ya know) and I've picked up where Vlasov has left off and with help from a # of great guys have got it moving forward. I'm likely going to go in directions that the Target Flanders originators may not have chose and in order to keep their concept intact will probably archive Target:Flanders at a point in the future when we reach that branching off point. A new mod will be announced at that time.

In the meantime you can fly 3 eras (WW1, WW2 Pacific and Korea) in a open beta period right now over at www.targetware.net There is even a fourth mini sim allowing you to fly a cessna and a more unstable civ aircraft to get a more realistic feel of the flight model and compare it to what you may be familiar with if you've flown in a small plane.

Come see whats happening online in WW1. The planeset is growing, the terrain is soon to be madeover. The Mod/Sim is controlled by the player and for the player!

Hi,
I have done a fair amount of simming and modding and I am happy to see you
guys are in beta. I did not know I have been waiting for KOE.

I downloaded the Target app and will try out the mods tomorrow. I guess the only question I have is how long is the beta and in the end how much will it cost?

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Tim

As to how long we'll be in beta I don't have a certain answer. I'm a mod developer and not a core member of the targetware team. My best guess would be the beta will run for several more months minimum. They've made great progress but still have a ways to go to get to a finished flight engine.

The cost after the open beta will be $10.00 monthly. This gives you access to 4 eras currently with more in the planning stages. Target:Hanoi is gathering steam and I've heard planning for a spanish civil war (Target:Tobruk) and a ETO campaign.

In my experience the $0.33/day that I've paid for a perpetual online arena (Dawn of Aces) in the past was some of the best entertainment value I've ever gotten. When targetware goes pay I'll not only get WW1 for that same money but 4 or 5 more era's in which to fly.

Come check us out while you can fly free. Find the forums and let us know what you like / dislike and what you'd like from your WW1 flight sim. The greatest thing about Targetware is the players can make the game what they want it to be.

Thanks Kiwi-flyer

I hope those that do look in will understand that we are in the early stages of development. The current team has been working on this for only a month or two since the originators have more or less left the scene. We have made a lot of progress in a short time and hope to put something together that the WW1 starved sim community will appreciate.

The more who look in and perhaps decide that they'd like to contribute the better we will become. I can really use some "Historians" who will look in and keep me on the proper path. 3D modelers and 2D painters are always high on the recruiting list and I'd really love to find someone with a interest in scenario design. The scenario design tool makes it relatively easy to learn and if you like recreating history this is a great way to get your feet wet doing just that.
