Dear DT,
I was familiar with "Full Canvas Jacket" in its original (beta?) form, "The Promised Land"--
it was spectacular even then!
For example, the Pfalz D.3s were so beautiful to look at-- they always appeared in pairs, for some reason-- that it was nothing less than a damn shame shooting them down!
(Oh, the light reflecting off of those white-silver wings!
I know that it's probably a long shot, but don't EVER understimate the original
RED BARON; a long shot, that is, in acquiring the very first version (entitled "1.0", oddly enough), with its stunning
4-color graphics!
The game is still a helluva lot of fun to play-- and where else can you sit down and have a whole "career" spanning one year (1918) in little more than one hour?
But it's the AI of that first version that still strikes me-- dangerous anti-aircraft when you flew over enemy towns (dangerous because it be effective enough to shoot you down), enemy aircraft that hid in the clouds above you waiting to pounce, engaging one flight of hostiles when a second flight comes along (and I don't mean the escort!

, or-- it happened just once but
still I wake with a cold sweat-- your flight of SE-5As being trailed (read: stalked) by a flight of D-7s...
What I would like to do one day is take the AI of this version and somehow, someway combine it with the later "256-colors" versions; the best of all possible worlds!
BTW, I'm doing a small bit of research on one of Arizona's sons,
Frank Luke, Jr.-- it's possible that I'll commission a painting by Russell Smith (Russell Smith--
remember that name!

entitled "Luke's Last Stand"...
Lastly, if you can't find this game or version of
RED BARON, please contact me, and I'll send you the diskettes; all I ask for in return is a photo of you, in front of your monitor, playing the game, and wearing a 10-gallon hat: sound good to you?
Always the best,
Captain Lewis, the Belle Harbor Balloon Buster
