Hey all, got my hands on a copy of RB2...

I'm still flying without a joystick

I'm wondering 2 things. 1, is it easier to fly with a joystick?

2. how does it compare to RB3D?

I've found the simulation to be pretty good... though I still can't land the plane... (keep crashing)

Without a Stick, I played 17 missions and got 12 kills, in a Nieport 11.

Six Missions, ten kills in a Nieuport 11 with a stick.

First mission with a Snipe: Six Kills with a stick (couldn't control the Snipe with arrow keys, it was hopeless!)

Has anyone acually used the RBII - RB3D patch? I can't figure out how it works...

KBOC,
"Has anyone acually used the RBII - RB3D patch? I can't figure out how it works..."

Just unzip it to your RB folder, make sure you have "use folder names" option checked. The patch is self-installing - after you've unzipped it, you're good to go.
cheers,
shredward

Unzip it?

rb3d_spr.exe is what I got... is there a ZIP file that actually does something? This executes, but does nothing at all.

I downloaded RB2 a couple of weeks ago. I was flying without a joystick - or rather - attempting to fly. Everytime I took off and attempted to climb the aircraft would stall and crash. The programme would not let me throttle up during the climb, which I found very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I picked up a logitec joystick. I think the joystick is the only way to go.

The only problem I'm having with it is that the software that allows me to program it also makes RB call up the Help File every time I finish a mission, which is very annoying.

You'll be amazed, however, at how different it is with a joystick. Mine cost $35.

I also got the RB3D patch to work and can now use the custom models (the Snipe is AWESOME!) Some of them, like the Gotha, crash my machine, so I removed them.

FWIW

As I understand it, you need to have the "better" version of Red Baron II in order to upgrade to RB3D - if your disk says "This is a Value Line product, and is not upgradable to Red Baron 3D" (like mine ) then the patch won't do you any good.

And yes, a joystick makes all the difference.

'til later,
