We're getting better at playing Dawn Patrol with VASSAL. Last night saw four of us get through two complete games. In the first game two Albatros DIIIs squared off against a pair of Nieuport 17's. One of the hapless French pilots was sent to a flaming death (made even more spectacular by the cool flame/smoke graphics in the VASSAL Dawn Patrol module) while the other beat a hasty retreat after seeing his comrade perish in flames.
In the second game it was a pair of American Nieuport 28's facing off against two Albatros DVa's. One of the Nieuports (me) made an early mistake hoping to get an Albatros to dive after him (which it didn't), thus leaving my wingman to deal with the pair. He held his own and was able to send one of the German machines sputtering and smoking toward it's own lines, where it was able to find a road and make a successful landing. After the victory though the poor Nieuport pilot had to crash land in no-mans land. Through some fortuitous dice rolling he survived the landing, evaded capture, and was able to make it back to his aerodrome where he lived to fight another day.

All in all a fun evening of WWI aerial combat.

Our next scheduled game will be Monday, August 16th at 9PM Eastern time. We hope to see you there.

For anyone interested in playing Dawn Patrol using the VASSAL game system, a new forum has opened over at Delphi. Head over to http://forums.delphiforums.com/DPCyberJasta/start and check things out. From there you'll be able to find/post game dates, tech help, rules discussions, "war" stories, etc. Get that old copy of DP out of your closet and join us. You'll have a great time.
