Red Baron 2
I'm pretty new to gaming, and I have an old game called Red Baron 2. I installed it on my computer that runs an XP system and the game seems to run too fast. Every time I fly it looks like it is going four or five times faster than it really should fly. Any ideas on how I can fix it?? Thank you for your help!

The company.
Hello, shipmodeler. The company that made RB2 is Sierra, a part of Dynamix. When I have tried to play the game, it runs at a time compression of about 2:1. (Very difficult to have a dogfight at that speed!) I pressed the key to set the time to 1:1, but that does nothing. What I want to do is upgrade the game to RB3D, and then install the "Full Canvas Jacket" superpatch from "The Promised Land" website, which I have already ordered. I am just afraid that after I do all this, it will still run at 2:1. If there is some way to fix this before I install everything else, I think I should do it, don't you? If you have any ideas how I can fix it, I would appreciate your ideas. Thanks.

There are three time-control buttons. Two increase/decrease the tomc compression ([ and ]) and one sets you to 1x (\). Try the 1x button, and see if that helps you. If that doesn't try reducing the time cimpression using the [ button.

Give this a try
Hi Eric,
Head on over to the Wings of Valor website.
http://www.wings-of-valor.net
In the utilities section, there is a "Red Baron First Aid Kit" downloadable file. It should help you run RB on a XP based machine. It should address your speed issue as well.
Good Luck,
Salute,
Steve

I just reinstalled Red Baron 3D... er... reinstalled is a poor choice of words, considering the last time I installed it on any PC was on my now-retired PIII-700, and the last time I played it much was on an older system than that!
Got the 'glide wrapper' and modified the ground fire using the tips from the Red Baron II FAQ to be less death-ray-like, but apart from that I'm running an unmodded version. And it rocks! Couldn't believe how much I missed a true flight sim, until I was in a swirling dogfight with Eindeckers once again, nervously listening to wires stretching and wood twisting and creaking.
The men who went to war in these primitive (and so-beautiful) early flying machines had balls of solid brass, as surely as they had planes of flimsy wood and canvas.
Smartly salutes the fallen and goes back to playing RB3D

I got Red Baron 1 a while back, but the game is so old it didn't work on Windows XP. Does RB2 work good on windows XP?

Provisinally, yes. Red Baron 2 can be upgraded into Red Baron II, and then a number of peripheral programs (such as "Full Canvas Jacket" or "Hell's Angels" superpatches) can be run in order to keep it working smoothly in XP.
Yes, it's work, but what you get, from the authentic engine sounds to a more realistic campaign and better graphics, makes it worthwhile.
