GT's mid-April update video!

Hi Guys,

Today's GT update is promo movie 7 (coming in at a whopping 123MB), and is titled "Roucourt & 6DOF!". The download will take some time, but wait till you pull this one on and give it a spin!

Hey, you might even feel like you've been flying in "The Circus" by the end (nice TrackIR "6 degrees of freedom" head movement demonstration too)!

Here's the link to GT's Knights of the Sky update page and the Promo 7 video:

http://www.gennadich.com/index.htm#

(check out the affect that the directional sound, lighting, shadows, and wind noise contribute to that "feeling" of flight)

Dunno 'bout you Dave but I'm running out of superlatives that accurately describe this true work of art in the making...

I swear, my stomach turned over when the plane flipped over to look at the aerodrome below!

I have just watched the clip – it’s superb, this game is really shaping up to be something with lots of detail everywhere you look.

The one thing that does stand out – and I would really like other peoples opinions – is that to me the surface of the aircraft are just a touch to glossy.

The Shadow and reflection effects are great but to achieve the reflections I think that the surface is just a bit to glossy.

I can understand surfaces such as the fuel tank and any bright metal areas may give you clear reflections, but I don’t think that the doped surface areas would be so shiny.

Opinions??

Hi Paul!

Matter of fact, the same reaction to the reflective properties displayed in the video has been voiced over on SimHQ's forum too, and VikS from GT replied that the effect can be "tuned down".

Sounds like they may plan to give the look another tweak.

(would be interesting if they could make the reflective properties display "bump" technology.....that is simulate minor highlights and low points in the canvas surfaces as it panned in the sun, and thereby make the airframe's covering look more irregular in appearance)

We've all seen genuine period flight footage that shows some of this stretched canvas actually vibrating with the airstream, but having this effect added would really be asking for the sun!

Like PC said above, any other reactions/opinions on this?

Hello alltogether,

the reflectings on the canvas surface are definitely too much. But it seems this game brings a little of the soul of these days back into our decade. I am really impressed how computer technology raised, since i first saw the Dire Straits "Money for nothing" video on MTV. (anybody remember?)
Oh boy i can`t wait to hold this little game in my hands.....

Mark Miller's Albatros renderings have some extremely shiny surfaces like metal on some of them. Also I have photos of very shiny albatros from a museum.

Hi Polovski,

i think that your photos coming from some machines that are high glossy-overrestored. I can`t imagine that this was original in 1918. Where did you take these photos?

Thanks Dave,

You are quite right there is a lengthy discussion on the reflective qualities on the SimHQ forum, I have just been over there reading about it.

It’s good to see so much enthusiasm for this flight sim from many people who have little or no knowledge of the WW1 air war.

I can see the value of many books on this period of aviation going up, as more people want to get their hands on them for research and general information.

All good in my opinion!

Regards

PC

Quite possibly vonSchaller - one is a Mark Miller drawing not sure what his sources where but he is a very professional artist. The other was taken by a friend whilst sat in a DVa - I'll check which museum it was and what the history of the plane is.

This one is an old photo of a tripe - and shiny.
