Red Baron 3D on XP and Vista

Hey Aerodrome! I first heard about this site when I played RB3D in '97/98. I was wondering if anyone could help me get my graphics and connection going on vista or xp (for my old rb3d friends on Aces High 2). Any help would be appreciated. I have it installed, and I can't seem to find any servers. The gameplay is awkward as well... the game plays at like 10x speed (maybe my computer is too good?) and when I shoot the terrain graphics dissapear!
I'm tryin to figure it out!
Dave

It's been a while since I worked in IT, but I think you may be out of luck in this.
Red Baron, according to Dynamix's site, is no longer a computer game....it's for one of those little hand-held whatchamacallits that people who don't like to read play with on ferry or train rides. I think the company that makes it now is called VGmobile or something like that.

Anyway, I don't think you'll find an upgrade that's compatible with the demands of Vista. We're going to have to get new computers if we decide on moving over to Vista from XP. Our current systems (my Dell is only 2 years old) won't handle the new OS. I remember a couple of years ago that Sierra announced that it was stopping support of RB3D.

Hi,

There is something called "The red baron repair Kit" for XP. I'll try to dig out what I've got tomorrow, it being 0100 here now. No guarantees, but I think I've got the files somewhere.

CofnCrnr, you can find information on RB3D over at the Wings of Valor web site:
Wings of Valor
You can get the RB3D First Aid Kit here (for running RB3D on WinXP):
http://wings-of-valor.net/files/util...it_BETA101.zip
There are several players over at Wings of Valor that have successfully installed RB3D on Vista.
If you have any problems, post at the WOV forum:
Wings of Valor
To see the servers, you need to install the 1078 patch for RB3D:
http://wings-of-valor.net/files/patches/rb3d1078.exe
Hope this helps.

On the single player side, check out this comprehensive how-to-patch thread:

SimHQ Forums: Install procedures w/sources, UOP links

There are LOTS OF patches and improvements for RB.

Also for multiplayer, after the 1078 patch, you need to comment the west server and enable (take out the //) the east server in 'mplayer.ini' file.
