Its slowly sinking in, but this is very cool! Its making me appreciate the game even more.

Really at the moment I am fully enjoying the fight model. I suppose this is how I would describe it. I am just going by the feel of the game. I play several hours a night online against other people using old IEN Warbirds (WW II planes).

If I warm up a bit flying some Red Baron planes against a "novice" pilot my defection shooting is way better and I am ready to do some hardcore scissors maneuvers when I log in to play Warbirds online.

This is great, however

I did successfully d/l RB3 from the site provided.

It appears to work fine, however; its all in GERMAN.

I don't read or speak GERMAN so maybe someone can lead me thru a way to convert it to ENGLISH?

Is this possible???

Any help will be appreciated!!

Yes, it can be transformed into the English RB3D.

This is how to do it:

Von Deutschmark's original thread is here:
Wings of Valor: GOOD NEWS! for RB3D FREE!

(S!) ALL hi ;-)

Ok all I have come up with a readme for installing this RB2 DE zip;

1 , download the RB2 DE zip
Download RB2;
Spielinfo Red Baron 3D
And set it up in a folder any folder that you make, mien was called RB2,
Open the folder and find the ( AUTORUN EXE ) this will setup RB2 on
Your PC C drive correctly and will be a full install of RB2 in German,

2 , Then download and add to the install of RB2 that is now on your C drive
The RB3D super patch exe in English, this will now give your RB2 and
Upgrade to RB3D and in 98 % English,
Download RB3D upgrade;.
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/redbaron3d/updates/
Note you will also need the 1078 patch that is there at the end of this install,

3 , Download the RB3D fix from Flybert’s website here;
^ Multiplay Red Baron 3D
And add that to your now RB3D game, this will make your RB3D game up
To a full RB3D CD value also read what is said at the page when you
Download this.

4 , now install the 1078 patch that you have downloaded from step 2,
This is so you will see the servers.

Now you will have on your C drive a full RB3D compatible with RB3D CD
And at this point you can add any other RB enhancements to your game.

Enjoy! [Smile]

Yeah, she's tricky to install to get a full English version.

S! all, try downloading the rb2_de.zip file from this SIERRA link:
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/redb...her/rb2_DE.zip 268MB in size

the rb3d super patch from:
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/redb...s/rb3d_spr.exe 11.4MB in size

the rb23dmmp09.zip patch from:
http://redbaronplayers.net/files/mmp/RB23DMMP09.zip 23MB in size

the rb3d1078 patch from:
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/redb...s/rb3d1078.exe 1.4MB in size

follow the instructions that GabiLaser posted above, after you complete the installs, your version of Red Baron will be in English
(basically, do the installs in order as listed above - rb2_DE, rb3d_spr, rb23dmmp09, and rb3d1078)

GabiLaser has written programs for Red Baron, one of which that enables the use of TrackIR in the Red Baron game

one last thing you need to do:

You need to modify the Red Baron mplayer.ini file usually located at:
C:\SIERRA\RedBaronII\mplayer.ini
Open the mplayer.ini file and change the section named [MetaServers] to look like below:

[MetaServers]
;Server=TCP:rb2.west.won.net:6001
Server=TCP:rb2.east.won.net:6001
;Server=UDP:dyn-meta.dynamix.com:47801

Save the changes you made to the mplayer.ini file and you should be able to able to see the servers and fly online.

Thumbs up Many Thanks and more questions!

I have RB3D running fine now - thanks for the help.
In case anyone else comes across the problem I had with the the rb23dmmp09.zip patch, I finally got it to work by opening the file at source, rather than downloading it (hope this helps someone).
I also have a couple of further questions tho:

I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 - what is the best patch to enable the higher resolution mode for the game? Do I need to enable the glide feature perhaps?

I only have an old ORIGINAL sidewinder gamepad - is it possible to use this in RB3D? If I want to upgrade I would greatly appreciate some suggestions, as I am totally new to flight sims

S! all, a good place to start for a good glide emulator patch/instructions for your video card would be here:
Polovski's Red Baron 3D site:
Polovski's WW1 flight sims
and dgVoodoo (a glide emulator used by lots of rb pilots)
dgVoodoo

I'm not sure if a sidewinder gamepad would work in rb or not. Everyone has their own preferences for a joy stick, I use a Saitek Cyborg evo. You can check out the various Saitek sticks here:
Saitek the home of PC Gaming, PC Peripherals, PC Audio and Chess & Games
I'm getting ready to order TrackIR for use with Red Baron (and use GabiLaser's program that enables TrackIR in RB):
TrackIR : head tracking view control immersion for flight racing and action simulator

Patches etc

Thanks - the Voodoo patch works perfectly
The cyborg evo looks very nice - I think I may have to look further into this.
And the headkit looks really interesting - LMK what it's like if you get one.

I use Track IR on IL-2 and love it. I wouldn't fly without it now.
