Embarrassing moment for me...

I was online, playing Red Baron 3D, earlier, and I got together again with my old clan (Jasta 5). Got to playing, and we discussed everything that had happened. Well, "J5-Voss", one of the more experienced members, and I were flying our Fokker DR.1's with custom skins (I'll post a picture in a minute). We got to flying along, and we spotted 3 B.E.2's. We engaged, and shot down 2. The last one I went after, and I took a hit to my engine. My ENTIRE plane goes up in flames. I'm burning and can't see, Voss is team speaking "LOL" over and OVER again, and the gunner is still shooting. So, I decide to try and put it out. I roll left and accidentally hit Voss' plane, smashing off just my upper wing (hence, I look like some sort of bugged Rumpler) and take off his entire right side. He spins down, and I'm sitting in the cockpit, STILL BURNING, lolling over and over again. Eventually, I just said, "Aw, the hell with this." and I bail out, plunging to my death from 4,000 feet, my pilot's back on fire.

This has never happened to me, and I hope it never does again. Quite embarrassing because I try to maintain my posture and professional dogfighting attitude.

Still, I will say it was pretty funny.

That's an old pic, way back from RED BARON II. I luckily managed to import the files over to RB3D, but I don't have any new screens from it.

Funny how our sim events almost take on the experience of real life when you get into the game!

Good graphic write up, I could imagine the events!

Had a similar experience last night wargaming and using our new "Engine on Fire" Rules. Yep, guess whose Morane A1 got four hits in the engine and plunged to the ground whilst trying to extinguish it. In the meantime my N.27 jammed his gun and the SPAD XIII would have soldiered on but I graciously accepted defeat (against 2 DVII's and a DrI).

Never give up, despite the odds. However, if you're burning alive, I suggest you give up and jump. It's quicker, at least. I've never had a tight situation like that, from my memory.
