I have an 800 mhz athalon computer with 512 mb ram and plenty of hard drive running Windows ME. *Need to know if this is sufficient to run the FCJ patch. *I could not find the system requirements on the FCJ website. *If this is ok can someone recommend a graphics accelerator for this system and patch? *Any help appriecitated.

Hi Mr Crow,
Kess, the guy who built FCJ, did it on an 850 PIII. You should have no problem running FCJ - however, it would be best if you can snag a Voodoo card somewhere. Otherwise, one must use a Glide wrapper, and that boosts the system requirement considerably. I run FCJ on a PIII 933, and can run it virtually full bore; one can tune the level of graphics seen in FCJ with the control panel to optimise it for your system.
cheers,
shredward

I found that the operating system was more of a problem than the actual graphics through-put of my computer. RB3d is old enough that it doesn't take advantage of many of the new graphics abilities, so that is rarely a bottleneck.

I gave up on XP Pro and installed a 2nd HD running Win98SE. With Win98 I have no problems with the game, with XP Pro I had continual crashes to desktop no matter what I did. A lot of the fatal errors had to do with RB3d attempting to access memory that was reserved. Trying to reduce the number of running programs in XP Pro is horrendous, there were scores of programs running in the background, doing what god only knows, but all of them thought that they were essential.

I took the KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) approach and am enjoying the game a lot more.

*;D Thanks very much, shredward and Miles. Just what I needed to know.

Good to know it takes the old operating systems ok. *I was afraid it was an XP only program. *Now, to find a good voodoo card.

One day we will have a fast Operating System a bit more reliable than XP and "light" as win98.

...maybe....

ok, I'm dreaming.

I just ordered Full Canvas Jacket about 2 weeks ago. Haven't received it yet but I am anxiously awaiting it. I hope it doesn't bog my system down too much.

I currently have a Pentium IV, 2.4ghz system with 512 meg of ram, a Nvidia GeForce Mx 440 graphics card with 64 meg of ram and an 80 gig hardrive.

Playing Red Baron now with either WFP or Beery Super Patch and all the bells and whistles turned on (plus a glide wrapper), I get about 30 frames a second with the highest screen resolution. If it stays anywhere near there with Full Canvas Jacket installed, I'll be very happy!!

Once I get it and have it installed and working, I'll post back to let you know how it runs on my system!

Got my Full Canvas Jacket disc last night. Loaded it when I got home (after 11pm) and once I got it all setup I was getting close to 29 frames per second in 1024/768 resolution. It drops off when I go to higher res but 1024/768 looks fantastic.

Only problem I am having that I haven't been able to resolve yet is that the game DTD's when I end a mission. Does it in FLY NOW, CAMPAIGN, or SINGLE MISSION mode. Does it no matter what resolution I am running it in, too. When I switch it to Direct Draw instead of Glide, the game seems to work fine so it looks like I have a graphics issue to play around with when I get the time.

Overall I think Full Canvas Jacket is terrific and I highly recommend it. So far, I am just enjoying the eye-candy that this patch brings to Red Baron. I haven't had time to play a campaign yet and wil have to resolve the dumping to desktop issue before I can do that in Glide, anyway.

Got the dumping to desktop at the end of missions problem resolved. Posted it over on the Delphi forums and although I solved it myself, i was pointed in the right direction by some very smart folks over there.

My problem was that even though I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of RD 3D, for some reason when it reinstalled it loaded Windows 95 compatibility mode for FCJ. I had it set before but didn't think to look there because it was supposed to be a completely fresh install. One forumite over there suggested that I check for it and turn compatability mode on. I checked and it was already on...so I turned it off and BINGO....game plays wonderfully now.

I HIGHLY recommened it for all you Red Baron players out there. $28 from Promised Land and well worth it in my opinion!!
