Hello pilots

I am having an impression : due to the artist work about Rb3D, on planes, squadrons, paint schemes, flight and damage model, sounds, I think that we are having a game that would "kill" any other try of launch a new WWI simulator. I think it is quite perfect : the only new feature that I could ask is a renderized 3d map of original France soil in 1915-18, with original towns, woods, fields, dromes and dinamic frontline (this is too much )

Add the film included in the CD, released as the campaign goes on, and new aircraft introduction report.

With PL or WFP patches we are playing more a documentary than a simple game How could any new game compete with that ? Just better graphics ?

I had the impression that some project, like "Target flanders" is stuck due this reason.

Zif,
dont forget the Full canvas jacket. it has raised the bar even higher for anything to follow in the footsteps of RB.

The only way for someone to replace RB3d/FCJ, is do what it does now better, and fix other problems we ve had along the way. IE, correct flight and damage models, modern (and earlier) graphics compatibility, Mega Multi player, full and constant company support, etc etc.

that would be the ONLY way, IMOHO, that a company, whether its private or a big corp, could topple what we have in Rb3 right now...

is it the premier WW1 sim? yes!! look at how old it is, and look at its following since and its continued following... that is what the next ww1 sim (if ever) should strive for.

I didn't forget FCJ, I saw it in the new PL graphic home page, if I am not wrong.

Anyway, RB3D now is comparable to anything

I think it may be true that RB3D with all of the bells and whistles (FCJ included) is so good it prevents any new WW1 sims from risking a foray into the market. One of the problems with flight sim games is that the programmers spend far more time worrying about how many pixels their graphics have instead of coming up with realistic game play. If somebody wants to take on RB3D, they will have to at least match the level of graphics, but more importantly they will have to broaden the experience of the game.

Of course, if they do that it will probably entail adding more objects in the air and on the ground, which means it will need a lot more computing power. Which means my computer won't be able to handle, so I'll just keep playing RB3D.

I think that the biggest blockage for RB3d is the antiquated graphics used for the program. As well, the programming is not upto standards required by XP. It does not run properly on many WinXP/2000 systems. Until it does it will be relegated to those people who have the time and desire to mess with computers just so they can fly WWI in style.

If the people at Sierra were truely bright they'd subcontract out rewritting the code with the FCJ and or WFP joined to it and re-issue the darned thing so it would run on modern systems.

Some people report no problems with XP, but many cannot get it to run in a stable manner. I got so fed up with XP that I installed Win98 on a separate HD and loaded nothing but RB3d onto it. The system worked very well until the HD failed. Now I'm just bummed out that I will have to get another HD and configure it, etc. just to play RB3d.
