Hello,
Many moons ago I played Red Baron on Windows 95. I'd like to return to the world of Red Baron, but I'm running XP. What game should I get? Red Baron 3D? Or is there a newer version?
Thanks!

Yes and no! And Yes!
Red Baron3D is still the WWI Flight Sim of choice, though it has , and is still evolving way past the game released by Sierra Dynamics. The game has been patched by 3rd parties so that one scarcely recognises it as the same game....improved terrain, objects, sounds, flight and damage models, aircraft modelling, date based changes and the addition of scores of a/c types, squadrons and aces. A good starting point would be to go to
http://www.swwisa.net/resources/newbie.html and
http://www.xs4all.nl/~rensg/
You will find patches, information, and links for most everything you need.
cheers,
shredward

Thanks so much! I've ordered RB3D (for only twelve dollars!), and now I hope to navigate successfully through all of the patches and upgrades.
Again, thank you.

There seems to be so much to download to make RB3D run smoothly with XP. In what order should I acquire/install these patches?
Any helpful hints or pointers are welcome.
Thanks so much!

Billy,
Need to know your system specs, particularly the video card, as this will dictate what patches you need. If you have Glide, it's easy, if something else, it's a little more involved.....one of the first things you will need, however will be XP_RB3d_start , one of the files on Rens' site
http://www.xs4all.nl/~rensg/red_baron_utilities.htm
that is an XP specific utility for RB - cures the no sound bug. If you get stuck, stop by SWISSA forum
http://ac.prospero.com/swwisa/start
and pose questions, everyone is very helpful, and someone will be able to answer any question you have and guide you through the installation.
happy flying,
shredward

Shredward,
My video card is the NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go. I'm running a Toshiba Satellite Pentium 4, 2 gigahertz processor. Thanks for the links! Can't wait to get started and join the action.
