I do not know if anyone in here has heard of the ongoing WWI project for IL-2. You can go to the following forum and stay updated. If this add-on becomes reality, then it may be the best WWI sim yet. Maybe!!!

Good to know. Aren't there issues about flyability in IL2 though? I've heard there's more faffing about in IL2 than in some other sims. What's the word from the horses mouth?

Peter,

>What's the word from the horses mouth?

I thought it was ok. I had trouble shooting other aircraft down it wasn't a turn and burn sim like RB3D or EAW. It was more on par with the flight models of Mig Alley and Battle of Britain. Where IL2 falls down is the campaign. The missions are ok in isolation but the campaign is boring and not interactive with its environment.

I thought it was a good game, I hope more independant Flightsim developers write to that standard and get publishing contracts.

The big complaint with Il-2 was the lack of an interactive campaign - something which should be put right in the 'sequel' Forgotton Battles (available from the end of Feb).

FB was originally going to be an add-on for Il-2, but it became so big it is being released as a stand alone sim in it's own right i.e. you won't need to have Il-2 installed to run it.

Il-2 was very good - much more of a 'flight' sim than RB. You had to think about much more, such as setting the flaps correctly and monitoring engine parameters. Having said that I'd wait for FB to be released, then go for that. You'll get all the good stuff from Il-2 plus a decent campaign mode. One word of warning - you'll need a beefy PC with a good 3D card in it to get the best from it!
