Regarding sound and graphics, Flying Corps is good but campaign mode is boring and there is not much replayability.
Red Baron 3D is best in my opinion. That is with the newest patches installed, of course. The unofficial patches add new aircraft, terrain and other things and really turn RB3D into the best WWI sim today.

RB3D is old, but with the plethora of patches, a fast computer and a good graphics card, it is still the best on the market. As a matter of fact I just saw a bunch of re-releases at Costco (in Canada).

To expand on my last post, the graphics file upgrades done by a lot of dedicated artists and WWI enthusiasts has made RB3D a long lived and very good WWI sim.

Check it out, play it a bit and THEN download the patches.

I JUST got RB3D... GREAT sim!

You know, I never realized how slow and underpowered those old kites really were untill I started playing this with the realistic flight model. YIKES. The feel IS fairly decent for a simulator... I've never flown the real thing (I've flown "modern" aircraft, including a J3 Cub, Cessena 150, 152, and 172, Piper "Traumahawk," (I HATE that airplane!) Piper Warrior, Bede BD-4 (experimental, very nice, FAST but looks like a brick with wings) and a Blanick sailplane.) Nice game.

I don't have a VooDoo card, so I'm "missing out" on some of the features- like the transparant cockpit mode- BAH... they didn't have that in the real on. I only fly from inside the cockpit like you really would. Graphics are still pretty decent, and my machine is fast enough to be smooth in all situations.

Still waiting on my rudder pedals, so I'm having to "ignore the ball" for the most part. I think they should be here this evening though.

These aircraft are pretty "twitchy" with small movements, probably just like the real thing. I managed to spin the E-III once... and it recovered easily enough. The E-III is DOG SLOW. I really enjoy flying the Albatross D-II. Takeoffs and landings are no big deal with either of them. Haven't tried a Dr-I yet... I think I will wait untill I'm a bit better. I have a tendacy to find the ground when dogfighting- getting any altitude in these underpowered kites is a challenge. I realize you can use the intermediate flight model, (more power, better climb etc.) but that would take a lot of the fun out of it.

So far with 3 missions in campaign mode I've shot down 1 aircraft, and damaged a bunch of other ones. Those 2 seaters with a tail stinger are tough- the bite back, and they take a lot of punishment before they go down. The only thing I shot down was a Nieuport 11. I was the only surviving pilot on the mission a couple of times, and now they don't have an Albatross for me to fly, so I'm back in an Eindecker... handles ok but I can't kill ANYTHING because I can't catch them! :'( Also we're usually outnumbered, so I guess that is pretty realistic.

I can never find my home airbase, I always end up landing at another nearby field. :-[ LOL Anyone have any suggestions for finding your way home?

This is the ONLY sim that I think is more fun than the ORIGINAL Flight Unlimited aerobatics sim. Freestyle aerobatics + guns and other planes to shoot at = very entertaining.

Miles-by re-releases do you mean that RB3D is being produced again or are they new/old stock. I have used my orginal RB game so much that it is very worn and the Campaign mode often just cuts out. I'd love to get a new game.

I've actually had that problem with missions involving a CLII for some reason. IT starts to load the mission, then dumps to the desktop. If you try to restart it gives an error... gotta reboot.

Works fine in other modes... also was working fine when I was flying single-seaters. Anyone know what's up with that?

I'll add my vote for RB3D as the best WWI sim around. *Those of you who are considering getting this one...keep in mind that all of the fancy patches only work in single-player mode. *If you want to be a REAL man...get on-line and fly those stringbags against other REAL pilots (most of whom can at least give the artificial intelligence of the sim a run for its money). *;D

Any one remember Wings of Glory? I thought it was quite good at the time.
