I wonder what they paid Schweighöfer for it.

Also, what's with the pathetic tone of voice, Matthias? God, he sounds like such a drama queen!

Does anyone know if the game is any good?

I wonder too...

No idea if it's him speaking...

Well, it is pretty simple but I like to play it, and the modular rules allow you to add the details you want without making it too complicated.

It came out as a card only game in Italy in 2004 by Nexus Editrice. After that, it has been translated in a dozen languages, it had several expansions (indipendent boxes and additional decks). A Second World War series has been recently added. The game sold 80.000 basic boxes + expanson kits, and more than 100.000 miniatures of the first series (the second has been released last week). The Yahoo WoW discussion group at
wow_nexus : Wings of War Nexus
has 1520 members organizing demos and tournaments, making additional rules and materials, playing by email. To make it short, I can't say if it's any good - but I'd say that it's quite successful for being produced by a not so big publòisher for the specialized boardgame market.

If you want to judge yourself, here you have all the rulebooks:

All the best!

Thanks, mate!

This looks pretty interesting and I'll certainly have a closer look at it- if it spawned that many expansions, it can't be bad.

And yes, it is Schweighöfer himself speaking in the clip. And he sounds like a prick.

You welcome!

But is this Schweighöfer somehow famous? From the movie site, it seems he his.

One detail I forgot to mention is that the main reason why I can't is that I am one of the two designers of the game. So please don't trust my opinions that can not be so balanced after all (the numbers are real anyway).

Have fun!

Hahahaha

I'll vouch for Andrea. WoW is quick and fun to play, especially with a group of friends. Though I'm still playing just the cardgame version, not the miniatures.

Great promotional idea to have Schweighöfer play the game.

Well, I wouldn't really say he is famous (very few people outside of Germany know him yet) but he is quite well known in Germany. He received a number of awards in the "most promising young actor" category and gave solid performances in a couple of movies and TV productions. I heard he did some stage work as well. All roles I have seen him do yet were of the "troubeled teenager" sort and he gave strong performances in them all.

Hearing his English makes my skin crawl, though. I used to tutor a kid who sounded EXACTLY the same and it was one helluva job to get at least partially rid of that accent and intonation...
It was good fun, though!

I'll go buy the game as soon as I get my next paycheck (mid- April) and I'll let you know what I think of it.

Nothing wrong with advertising your own product, Andrea!

I'm sure it was not enough...

It seems to me - I dont know the game - the spot is aming at little boys, not older than 8-9 years...

I hope Im not insulting some fans of WoW. The miniatures are pretty good looking & I can imagine they would look quite good on my desk
