After spending some time with it for a week or so, I'm bored already. There are no parts that offer sustained gameplay. The Campaign is awful and boring, there are like five stand alone missions and multiplayer is virtually non-existent. There is nothing to spend time doing. I do fine in MP and get some kills surviving the whole round at times; it was fun for a few hours, but the load screens and times are unacceptable. The user interface is a nightmare of layers on layers of screens and windows, none of which is clean and quick. There is just no gameplay here, you can't even select major squadrons for campaigns.

I have great hope for the game, but don't like paying for the development. There is no way this game would get released in such an uncompleted state from most other companies.

It is not a privilege to pay $40 to beta test a sim, no matter how good the physics and damage models are.

Dude,I feel bummed out now,I had high expectations on it Perhaps the devs should have atleast copied the campaign modes of RBII and OFF.I say they should re-release a new version of ROF,and with the devs to look up the above sims to get a good sense of what makes a good WWI sim.

I can see how you guys who have burned up what little content there is would feel disappointed. I am coming from the position of a more or less casual simmer with a specific interest in WW1 aircraft and era.

I have had the game for a week and I am still in training! I am at the part where you need to strafe the convoy and bomb the tank. I have tried at least 5 or 6 times to complete the mission and I keep crashing, nosing into the road or the turf.

For someone like me there is plenty to work on and while I am learning there is this awesome game engine to experience. So I am very content with the game. If the gameplay had reached the point of been there done that, I might feel different.

But it is all new to me and I keep learning more about flying and handling this SPAD every hour I am in the air with it. I have to watch myself not to become obsessive about it and take a break once in a while.

But I do feel that the game is more than a beta. The game engine is complete enough to ship. It does what it is suppose to do, and does it well. They do need to start adding content and scope to the sim, and they need to put a fire on it, I agree with that. The devs are obligated now that the sim is released, to flesh it out in a timely manner. It is not right to leave experienced simmers in a lurch.

Yes, the game is lacking in content right now but I do believe that it all can and will be fixed if Neoqb put some time into it.

In fact, the only big mistake in the game so far is, in my opinion, shipping what was supposed to be a predominately online flight sim with only two flyable aircraft, one per team.

I got game yeasterday and after several hours of practise can now even shoot enemy planes down now and then (Full realism ofcourse). Now to good and bad points.

Positive:

flight model is very good
damage models are good.
AI uses plane strenghts (IE dont try to dogfight with spad against Fokker)
Very pretty
Weather effects are superb.
Mission editor is very powerfull (In time there probaply will be lots of user made missions)

Negative:

Campaing (not historical and there are not any information of your squadron, etc. You feel like you just do single player mission in a row).
AI collides constantly (with you and each other).
Too few modelled planes (I dont mean flyable, overall there are way too few plane types)
Recon/bomber gunners are snipers. I fear them most

In a way game in current state feels like flight simulator series where you just can fly and look amazing landscape (I actually did fly to Arras to check cathedral there. It was modelled ) with very good flight model. IMHO campaing is most disapointing aspect. I have already downloaded one user made mission and it actually was best mission that I have so far flied in game, so you can expect lot from there.

Overall I enjoy in this game as I had readed all bad things before and nothing game for surpise. This game actually suprassed my expectations.

I must add one comment to my review statement above. I played it online for an hour or so last night and had a good time peppering the Hun regardless of it's flaws.

Thanks for the reviews.

I have the game but have not been able to play it yet. I had to go on a business trip on the 22nd of June and won't be home until the 13th of July. When the release date was set for the 8th I was all smiles.. when they changed it to the 25th.. not so much. So I have my copy sitting at home waiting for me.. but at least the new planes should be out by the time I get home.

This was posted today on the ROF forums: (FYI, TopGun has the green colored name of a moderator, he may be a Dev, I don't know. But I am assuming that it is official)

4 additional planes sounds good, paying for them does not but nothing to cry over. I spend money on things that don't amuse for neary as long as a good game.

According the the guys at SimHQ, only the Nieuport 17 & 28 and the Albatros D.V will be available for purchase on friday. Apparently the SE5a is still not ready and will be released at the end of the month...

Bugger...
