I agree! I wouldn't do that for a sim, either.

Good luck with things.

Update:

It turns out that several key features were not getting installed. On my third install attempt, enough components were in place to allow me to access the settings window and set-up the game graphics, sound, and other parameters.

But starting gameplay still shuts down the program, with the good old "Windows has encountered and error and needs to close XXXX".

So I'm making progress but something is still missing or buggy. Getting help from the game forum.

Nice to hear you getting somewhere Harry. I know your frustration, I have had games not run on my system when it seems like everyone else is having no problem.

With a game that is intended to be enjoyed to it's fullest online, the more players that can get it running, and enjoy it, the better the game is for all of us. We are rooting for you (and your PC!)

Ok, I just installed mine. I think. It wasn't a very user friendly (at least to me) installation procedure. Went online to set up an account. Then I hit "start game".

And all's it does is keep circling the Spad in the hanger. No main menu. I let it run for 10 minutes and nothing happened.

I had a feeling I should've left it unopened in the box and sold it on ebay after reading stuff here.

Any ideas?

Well, enough is enough. I don't know what it did, but I wasn't able to download off the net anymore. So I have unloaded it and restored my PC to an earlier date.

Good luck, gents. Back to my IL-2 1946.

That sound like you had wrong resolution(can be changed from the game settings). Menu icons are located bottom of the screen.

What I can't understand is that people seem to want to be able to play the sim just 5mns after unwrapping the parcel. As I am a very patient man, it's just a bit surprising to me.
And as I managed to install sims that required upgrading all my drivers (mobo, CG, sound card, etc... you name it) to be able to load, and numerous hours of scouting the internet for tips in order to have a satisfactory game play, I can say I'm not really afraid when I buy ROF that I will manage to get it to run. Not before I have upgraded my PC though...

Update:

As I previously mentioned, the install itself was cruel and unusual punishment, requiring me to uninstall and re-install 3 times before all the game components and third-party software was loaded. Funny how uninstall takes just seconds but a full install took hours. I have well over a TB of memory so space wasn't a problem.

Then I noticed that my video card was having troubles. It turns out that it isn't quite up to the game requirements, and my machine is so ancient that it cannot accept an upgrade sufficient to handle the game graphics. Nor can it handle the power supply upgrade needed to handle a new video card.

If you, too, are using a 4-5 year-old computer, don't bother trying to play this game. It's time to upgrade to a new machine.

So I've uninstalled the game, set it on the shelf, and when I have the $1400-$2000 needed for a new computer that will actually run the game, I'll give it another try.

Now, the video card problem aside, (which is clearly my fault for just assuming that my card would handle the game graphics), the install itself still sucked eggs, and the hottest video card on the planet wouldn't have made that any smoother. It took quite literally DAYS to get it loaded, not 5 minutes as a previous poster mentioned.

You guys have fun with the game, I'll hopefully join you sometime in the next year or so. I can't justify a new machine just for the sake of a game at this time.
