Canvas Knights is coming round end of Summer and is a mod of IL-2 1946 WWII Combat Flight sim
CanvasKnights<dot>com
I'm actually more excited about this project than I was about Red Baron II / 3D, which some of you might know I was involved with since it started
The IL-2 engine is very good and can do WWI aircraft, I believe faithfully, even gyroscopic precession .. it is a well known format with great mission builders and great online play.
Canvas Knights progress is going well, at start it will be released with 5 planes per side, 3 fighters, 2 2-seat and a large bomber on each side .. really more in that Albatros D.III, Camel and Fokker D.VII should have 2 varieties each .. Zep will likely be included
All should be flyable .. 2-seat and bombers should have option of human gunners .. perhaps, again, Zep might have these features too
Canvas Knights will have, (EDIT) potentially more scope and play value than RoF, OFF or even Red Baron
In contrast to RoF also, it's IL-2 engine can be played on systems several years old .. I play IL-2 1946 very smoothly on a P4 2.4 with a nVidia 7600 GS AGP card .. actually played original IL-2 Stromovik on a PIII 667 with 32MB card, though not effectively
I've been a member here for about 11 years, and other than Red Baron II / 3D, I've never posted about any other WWI sim .. I do think this will be very good and all it will cost is a copy of IL-2 1946 at about $15
It won't have quite the beautiful graphics as RoF, nor it's amazing crash damage modeling, but IL-2 is quite sophisticated in it's physics, for instance control wires are modeled point to point, and if a bullet severs a rudder control wire within the fuselage, it will act as it would in reality.
Several 'professional' level people are working on this, particularly the primary modeler Deutchmark .. who is a WWI aviation fanatic for many years
