As others have mentioned, the game is realism light but great fun. Always having had a thing for miniatures, I've found collecting them to be rather addicting. I've read a rumor that the next mini expansion will include an S.E. 5.

If you want to use two-seaters, you need to get the "Watch Your Back" game. I discovered this after buying a German 2 seat model and then realizing I didn't have the type of damage cards that my new model dealt.

Yeah in looking at the various miniatures available, I was aghast to not see my favorite WWI plane in the mix. It struck me as odd since the SE-5 was one of the most widely used Allied planes of the war. I wonder if it's odd armament arrangement is what kept them from introducing them till now.

You can use 2-seaters without the "B" damage deck. Simply use an "A" damage deck and cut the restults in half, always rounding up. For example you draw a damage of 4 so you instead take 2 points of damage.

Another way to do it would be to take out some of the higher damage cards thereby making a custom deck.

The difference between the decks is to signify one or two MG's.

Kind of a pain but might be better than needing to buy the whole 'Watch your Back' set just to get one deck.

I think they are soon to be releasing a new set with the massive bombers. It's called 'Flight of the Giants' or something. Don't know if there will be minis for it but I've heard at least not right away.

Speaking of, it's not hard to make your own minis for this game. In fact there are quite a few people out there who offer some free downloads you can print and cut out or you can use profiles you print and cut out.

I don't play like Fokker Ace hehe...
We play Wow for a quick and fun WW1 immersion airfigth, altitude doesn't slow much the game (just remove the 0 from the damaged decks like most of people do anyway) and it adds both chrome and strategy options...

Once you start playing with miniatures, most of the boxes and packs from the card game version become mostly useless, I selling mine now that I have figurines...

So if you cannot find the deluxe pack, your best start would be with Famous Aces as it it will give you all the components, markers and the A damage deck that is the most used...
You will be able to try the card version of them game and to move easily to figurines (you will be able to download the miniatures rules from the official web site) not using the B deck (very few miniatures do anyway)...

I have my hopes that it will be the S.E.5 too. But i miss the early planes as well. Fokker E.III, D.H.2 and contemporaries.

No, no war hehe...

I just give my vision of what the game is and how it can appeal to a wargamer...
I read a lot of stuff on forums about the game being this or that from people actually not playing with the actual rules of the game (like altitude, pursuit, blind spot)... This is all fine but the game design as it is is richer than what most people playing with half the rules say...
I just precise this because Kirk is a wargamer too and even with all the rules, it is extremely lite and simple for wargamers...

On the surface the game doesn't look like it has much depth, but when you take the time to look at the differences in maneuver cards, the optional rules, the large number of aircraft, etc. it looks like there's a lot going on that isn't immediately apparent. Personally, I'd get it for the early planes and the big bombers (when they come out) because most other aviation games concentrate on the standard Triplane vs. Camel conflicts. Heck, even Dawn Patrol and Richthofen's War don't have the big bombers.

Well I did it. I went off the deep end and ordered a bunch of Wings of War stuff. Got Burning Drachens, Watch Your Back, the Immelmann and Recon Patrol booster packs, and five minis (Udet DVII, Barker Snipe, a DH-4, an Ufag, and the Lufbery Nieuport 17). Not bad for $110 and no shipping costs. Now I can't wait for the deliveryman to show up so I can start playing.
