please help identify

A colleague, who knows of my service background and is convinced I must know all there is to know on military matters, brought me a framed parade set and miniatures belonging to her father hoping I could identify the medals. I've managed all the obvious campaign stars and medals alongside the replica DFC (she has the original at home), but two illude me. I think one may an unofficial piece known as The Bomber Command Medal, but I don't know it's history. As for the other I haven't a clue. It's oval in shape which suggests that it may not be a military award. The ribbon is reproduced below.

It's the Air Efficiency Award:

Air Efficiency Award

For 10 years' service in the Volunteer (R.A.F.V.R.) or Auxilliary Air Force. Canada awarded it as well, but very few were issued as it was replaced by the Canada Decoration.

Bomber Command Medal

This came out in about 1980, as the first in a series of unofficial medals for various groups who thought the HMG should have struck a special medal to recognize their service (and in many cases I agree with them).

Thanks Michael, I knew I should have mailed you direct. The set is in a sealed frame so the reverse is not visible; it would have been easy otherwise. The chaps name was Mcleod and his daughter says he was an air gunner. There can't be many air gunners received the DFC.

In the R.A.F. probably not. The R.C.A.F. had a lot more non-pilot aircrew commissioned (unfortunately many of them posthumously)

Here's one I have his pilot's medals, and researched the crew.

What, and pass up the opportunity to educate these people in the truly important things in life?
