Greetings,

I am looking for the following information about Captain Mahlon Henry Harris (USA):

1) A Listing of his Distinguished Service Cross. (What did he do?)

2) What unit was he in

3) any other information that can be provided.

He was the grandfather of a close personal friend and any information would be much appreciated.

Thank You in advance,
Scotty

From Decorations United States Army 1862-1926:

Harris, Marlon H
First lieutenant, 312th Infantry, 78th Division
Near Grand Pre, France, Oct. 26, 1918
R(esidence at time of entry into service)--Powell, Pa.
B(orn)--Powell, Pa.
from G.O. No. 28, W.D., 1921

During the assault on the citadel Lieutenant Harris gallantly led his company through heavy enemy fire. Learning that the adjoining company had met with extradinarily heavy machine-gun fire which had killed all of its officers and was holding up the company, he, of his own volition, passed through deadly fire, reorganized this adjoining company and led it, with his own, to the objective. This officer was among the first to scale the wall of the citadel.

Wow! That's a good citation - not all of them are that exciting.

Scotty, your friend still has his medals, I hope? If it were me, I wouldn't let 'em out of the family for love or money.
