Question If you have "money to waste" ...

... this would be a good opportunity to do so?

Fliegerpokal der Marine bei eBay.de: 1871-1918 (endet 16.02.08 21:37:59 MEZ)

30.000.-- Euros seems to be a very high price for such an item.

And why does the seller not mention the name (on the photos the name of the pilot is covered by a piece of paper)? There must be a reason for this! Maybe one of those "welcome foreign bidders" from the AERODROME FORUM can be curious and ask the seller for the benefit of all of us. There is still some time left - the auction will end on Saturday 16.02.2008.

The result may be an outrageous story, a good fake, simply fun or a real treasure (although I doubt that the last one would be the result).

Volker,

I agree with your skepticism. It is an interesting piece but can you tell me what it is?

Phil

It was an award issued to a pilot on the occasion of his first kill. This one was awarded to naval pilots. Army pilots were awarded a cup.

Agreed. I either see a piece of paper SIGNED by a professional historian on this subject, or I don't buy. Confirm the authenticity before you buy, that's what I always say.

Arrow Can you ask the seller?

Hello LegendaryLoewnhardt, hello cameldriver,

would you be so kind to ask the seller for details? If you click on "Frage an den Verkäufer" you can ask him for such informations.

I would be interested to hear what the seller will say ...

Exclamation

Hello FOKKERJ,

I think this answers all!

A serious seller would really inform interested people (name of the pilot, existing documents on that connection and probably where he got it).

Addittionally he refuses to answer questions of probably buyers - so this piece could probably be a stolen object or a fake. A serious antiques seller would not react like this ...

Hi Volker,

If I read this right, the recipient was the also the holder of the Pour le Merite and a member of the Kriegsmarine.

I have not received an answer from the seller as of yet.

Very Best Regards, FOKKERJ

Cameldriver,

Thanks for the info. It is really a good looking piece. I've no idea about fake or not, but it would be interesting to have such a piece. Unfortuantely, $40k is about $39K to high for me!!!

They had an incident like this a few years ago. Some bloody scammer claimed he had a piece of the Red Baron's hair, and he was trying to sell it for something like $3,000. What a load of trash. No authenticity receipt, no nothing to confirm it wasn't a fake.

EDIT:

For $90K, you could buy a working replica Fokker D.VIII! I don't know why someone would advertise something like a victory trophy for nearly $40K. Ridiculous.
