Medals & Ribbons

Anybody know where I can find medals and ribbons from world war1. Ive look and looked for a while now and cant seem to find anything beside medals and the ribbons from the US, but I want some from the other countries that were involved in the first World War. So anybody got any suggestions.

Nacho, there are lots of sources. Try e-Bay for a start (though be careful). Also, if you google "medals + sale", you will find a lot of stuff available.

For knowledge about these, get online with the Gentlemen's Military Interest Club (Gentleman's Military Interest Club (Powered by Invision Power Board)) Their website has great information. Doc

Do you have any "militaria" shows in your area? These are like flea markets where everyone is a dealer in military collectables.

Ebay is another bigger place.

There are a number of on-line dealers that are easy to find.

Keep in mind, though, that unless a medal is selling for less than about $10, it could very well be a fake. The chances of it being a fake go up proportionately with the price and desireability.

Fakes ranging from poor quality knockoffs that fool few people to exceptional quality that fool experts are being cranked out in large numbers in factories in China, other Asian countries and former Soviet countries.

You need to go into the hobby with your eyes wide open and expect to be hosed often in your first few years until you really learn about these things and over time you will get to the point where you get taken less often (you will never get to the point of not being taken - just not so often).

You might also want to look at Wehrmacht-Awards-Forums, they have a good section of items for sale, including Imperial medals.
