DFC plus double bar- how many?

Hi All

Does anyone know how many British/Dominion airmen received the DFC with TWO bars in WW1?

I know Harry Cobby (Australian) was one. Im thinking there were three others- who were they?

Only four airmen received a second bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross in the Great War. Three of them were aces. Two of them were Australian:

Arthur Cobby (Australia)
Walter Longton (England)
Ross Smith (Australia)

One of our resident experts may know the name of the fourth man.

The fourth recipient was John William Boldero Grigson whose second Bar was awarded in October 1921 for services in Mesopotamia:

Air Ministry,
28th October, 1921.

His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the undermentioned rewards for distinguished services in the Field in Mesopotamia:—

Awarded a Second Bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Flying Officer John William Boldero Grigson, D.S.O., D.F.C., R.A.F.

For gallant conduct and devotion to duty. This officer has always set a fine example to his flight by his courage and devotion to duty and by constant keenness and hard work.

(D.F.C. gazetted 21st September, 1918.)
(1st Bar to D.F.C. gazetted 22nd December, 1919.)

Here's a pic of Ross Smith's medals. They are on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Wow, that Smith group is outstanding. I had the good fortune to know Johnny Caine, one of the few triple DFC winners in the last war. He won his on intruder ops with 418 RCAF.
