Enter 2194640162 in ebay search window and this Sanke MvR signed card will come up.

Looks authentic to me (as far as one can see from a scan) It seems to me to have all the characteristics of an authentic signature.

If you havent got one and want one this could be a good 'entry level' to an MvR as it is in pretty rough condition.

IMHO good to excellent cards go for US$3500-4800., so maybe this is worth US$1750 ? IMHO !

I see Swissbee has announced his 'registration' ! (See Albert Ball thread !)

If you are going to bid checkout the Albert Ball thread first for some good hints and tips on bidding for items like this

I don't like the writing I must say. I've never seen Ritm as an abbreviation for RiTTmeister...
The writing also looks very un-Sütterlin...
Perhaps someone else has seen an original MvR autograph and can comment on this?

I would say: it is a rather ugly original! But the price is ... rediculous!

Here are examples of MvR's signature from reputable dealers. I do see some similarities.

Good one Winged Warrior

Are you convinced the second one of your samples is authentic ?
There are plenty of characteristics about it that look 100% but is the R particularly sharp with the upward slant as opposed to the more typical 'roll' downwards of the right hand side of the R and the 'c' seems to be disconnected from the rest of the signature.......a trait I havent seen in other examples. The 'inflexion' above the R is also abit unusual being so small and touching the top of the R. Dont get me wrong Im more than happy to accept it as an example. Im just querying a couple of the characteristics as being untypical. What do you think Winged Warrior ?

Anyone else out there want to contribute with examples?

(Please avoid the obvious Peppard and Ursula examples !!)

Bidding closing in rapidly on my guess of $US1750 for the present ebay item as we speak ! I wouldnt want it personally but from what I can see Im convinced its as genuine as anyone can ever determine from a scan.

Hi ehrenpries,

I understand your thoughts about the second signature. My guess is that it was written in a hurry, as it is definitely not as legible as the first example. This particular signature is currently for sale on:

www.derrittmeister.com.

I believe it to be authentic, as I have my total trust in Ken Greenfield not to try and pass a forgery off as an authentic signature. He has sold many German WW1 pilot signatures over the years, including several of MvR's. I think that it is a good example of how a person's signature can change depending on the his/her mood, physical position (sitting or standing), and where and when it was signed.

regards

WW has a point. I've only seen one MvR signature so wouldn't presume to comment on others, but the time/fatigue factor is definitely a biggie. My own scrawl changes during autograph sessions. Also, I recall helping with a mass litho signing years ago when Joe Foss finished a lap and a half ahead of everybody else. Somebody asked how he did it and he winked at Gabby: "Well, my name isn't Francis Salvatore Gabreski!"
