This is funny - MvR and Boelcke photo

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=6609283609

From auction discription:

This is the real deal!

This photo appears to be one of the earliest photos of Baron von Richthofen (center) and Boelcke (far right) while Richthofen was still with KampfGeswchader 2, just before the formation of Jasta 2. The plane appears to be an Albatross B.II.

The Real Squeel

This guy posts all his items with
"This is the real deal!"

IMO, the accuracy of his descriptions AND the authenticity of his offerings are usually suspect.

This is funny-MVR and Boelcke photo

I think the guy on the far right looks more like Richthofen to me.

At least the photo provides good details of the aircraft and aircrew flight gear. That, boys and girls, is a propeller.

Another "real deal" from the Major!

This guy calls himself "Major" and has been doing the militaria show circuit on the east coast for decades and with many of the shows being produced by himself. According to him, everything he has is the "real deal". He has cases full of all kinds of "real deal" stuff ranging from "real deal" WW I aviation things to "real deal" Hitler things to everything in between. His prices always seem to be the highest of any dealer at the show and over the years I have come to suspect the authenticity of 90% of his "real deal" things. Years ago I was trying to educate myself about what was authentic and what wasn't in the market place by looking at everything and asking people questions and making purchases only after I had a degree of confidence that the material was okay. On a couple of occasions I asked him politely about what even I at that time of my learning curve could see were some pretty dodgy looking "real deal" things and his response was always extremely hostile with a combination of an atititude of how dare I question his merchandise combined with an attitude that if I didn't buy his things without question then I was wasting his time. These days when I find myself at a show where he is, I always walk right past his tables without so much as a glance.

If these men are Richthofen and Boelcke then I am the emperor of China!

I sent him a note saying that the photo does not include Boelke and von Richthofen, but is an interesting picture nonetheless. Lets see if he responds.

I sent him a note also. Same time I posted the above info. No reply.

I doubt he cares. All he needs is one trusting bidder.

On the Other Hand...

You know guys on the other hand, about a year ago this 'expert' let an excellent copy of the photo of Qurentin Roosevelt beside his crashed Nieuport 28 go for chump change. I waited until after the eBay auction to inform him of the dead "German's" true identity. VR, Roadhog
