Another, er, questionable fabric piece -ebay

Hi All,

I'm kind of amazed that these things keep turning up and that people keep bidding on them. Check out ebay item 6619494976. It's a "framed piece if "authentic" fabric from the supposed rudder cross from an "Albatros D.1" (guaranteed authentic!) together with an "Imperial German Belt Buckle Disc and a German Button". Like the last two items absolutely guarantee that it's an authentic fabric relic, along with the old "Germanic-looking" script employed. If that crude, straight cross piece came from an Albatros D.I, I'll eat my copy of "Der Rote Kampfflieger". Seems to me we've seen a number of similar items on ebay in past months, all nicely framed together with some scrap of hat fabric or uniform piece in an effort to dupe the uninformed. It neither looks like or has the distinctive character of an authentic relic - IMHO.

If I've offended any forumite by this, I'm sorry. I'm just stating my opinion.

I laughed at this at first, but now I see there have been 14 bids on it.

Sigh.

Greg

You gotta laugh sometimes GregVan, it keeps you from crying. Just remember, guys like you (and others on this forum) make this hobby worth it for neophytes like me.

Don't you like the way the old beat up frame lends an air of authenticity to it? I noticed the seller has earned himself couple of scathing feedback remarks.
