Pictures of Richthofen with HIs Triplane

On eBay this mornig there are pictures offered for sale, item number6625200091, which supposedly shows Richthofen standing by his triplane. Also there is a picture of another piolet along with other pictures showing a funeral. Personaly, I don't think it's Richthofen but the pictures do have historical merit. What do you guys think?

The photos DO have historical significance, but none of them feature MvR, much less a triplane. Albatros and Halberstadts, yes - but no Fokkers.

Is the strip of canvas from his triplane? Probably not, to put it mildly.

All quite interesting, though.

Cheers

The aircraft shown are an Albatros D.V in mid-summer markings.
The other aircraft is an LVG C.V. The fellow posing in front of the aircraft with the moustache is named either Wittman or Baumann. He appears in some other photos with his observer that I have seen elsewhere. I can't recall the FA unit number, but can look it up. No photos of the Red Baron or a triplane among these!

Hi,

The fellow posing in front of the LVG C.V is Ltn. Wittmann of Flieger Abteilung (A) 287b. The LVG C.V is 1026/18 and the location was Marimbois aerodrome.

Geeze, it seems that any picture of any German WWI pilot simply HAS to be the Red Baron, doesn't it?

This would seem to be the case! The name is magic and it will certainly grab more attention for an auction listing than say Ltn. Wittmann w/LVG C.V.

The credibility of the place selling such items should be tarnished for a long time. Places like this prey upon the unknowing soul. One could make an argument for one not researching before they buy, but so many people would not even begin to know where to search. One only need come to this forum, because there are magnificent factual historians here.

Tell me, please, when an Albatros becomes a Fokker Triplane? Did I miss something? People like this makes it difficult to want to buy anything on ebay.

It appears a "correction" has been made... yet the item(s) descriptions remain disingenuous.

PLEASE NOTE: Mistake in listing. Richthofen is obviously standing beside a BIPLANE, not triplane as indicated in the description. The cloth piece, however, has come from his TRIPLANE.

Read: Whatever... just shut up and bid!
