German Helmet

The helmet is German. It might be World War I or it could be post-war. One clue is the full leather cowl. Another is the Prym button. Prym is a German Company, founded in the 16th century, that made and still makes press buttons. They supplied buttons to the German military through World War II. I can't tell whether there is also a leather loop on top of the helmet. That would also be characteristic of German helmets.

Unless it is marked to the flying service or unless there is provenance there is no way to tell if something like this was worn by a pilot or observer, or if it was worn by an auto or motorcycle driver. The wartime vs. post-war time period is also hard to determine.
