2005 Auction of the Carisella Collection

I stumbled upon this page and was wondering if any of the forumites took part in the auction?
Free Article .:. RED BARON FLIES AGAIN AS TREASURES FROM CARISELLA COLLECTION COME UP AT JULIA'S

I saw all these items in early 1978. I was 17 and had just read "Who Killed The Red Baron". The ending of that book leaves you hanging: I just HAD to know the outcome of the Baron's skeleton! When I realized that Pat Carisella lived on the North Shore of Boston (I was a South Shore kid) I tracked him down and arranged a visit with a buddy.

Pat was exceedingly gracious and generous with his time and me and my buddy spent a couple hours with him in his basement museum. There were an awful lot of amazing things there in including a Pour Le Merite he believed to be Voss's. I forget the story on that one, but he did tell us how it came into his possession and why he thought it was Voss's. We were allowed to touch Some of the MVR pieces, which at the time was a huge deal to us.

My high school buddy was named Brian Andresen. Wwe've fallen out of touch over the last decade but he ended up visiting Pat many times after our first meeting (In went into the serbvice and never lived in that region again). I'm really surprised that Brian's nor a contributer here. He got very active back then locating and contacting Great war pilots and built up quite an original archive of letter, photos and other artifacts. Brian, if you lurk here... drop me an email, buddy. My website has my email right on the front page...

So... did any of you people here get inolved with this auction? Are some of these pieces in Omaka now?

Omaka here I come...

Im hoping to visit Omaka NZ from OZ next year and will look out for any of the items on display from the auction.

I bid on a number of items from that auction but fell pathetically low of the realised prices.!

I guess some of them will come up again at some time in the future.

Lovely bit of memory lane stuff...wow ! Voss' PLM...now that would be nice !

Regards from

Ehrenpries

PS More hot mulled wine before Dawn Patrol please nurse !!
