Request for Info: Nungesser-Coli & Spirit of St. Louis photo

Hello,

I am new member and not a pilot, but in going through old photos from my great grandfather there were 2 very interesting ones.

1) Two planes side by side, first is the Nungesser-Coli and the second is the Spirit of St. Louis.

2) The Nungesser-Coli up close with both pilots smiling at the photographer.

I believe these were taken by my great grandfather, the writing on the back appears to match some of his other writings. Would anyone be able to provide any more information?

Thanks for your time,

Chris

Hello Chris

The Nungesser-coli to which you refer was the name of The Breguet XIX n° 1685 in which flyed Dieudonné Costes and Joseph le Brix in october 1927 for their expedition above France-Spain-Spain-Marocco and Mauritania from 10 october1927 to 25 january 1928
When in Panama their plane was near "the Spirit of Saint louis "de Lindbergh

here is the photo Highslide JS

an article which was publied in the Time Magazine
Two Airplanes - TIME

and a site about the expedition of Lebrix and Costes (sorry in french)
Septfonds en Tarn et Garonne (82) : Dieudonné Costes*et Joseph Le Brix

The other photo with Nungesser and Coli was taken I think in 8 May 1927
at their departure with " L'oiseau Blanc" a Levasseur PL8-They disappeared
for ever in this expedition

here is the Photo
