Harry,

a third party had pointed us to the following text but forgotten to give the source (Neumann: Die deutschen Luftstreitkräfte im Weltkriege, S. 363):

The obsoleted Z.IV had not only bombed hostile troop camps during the nightly recon missions since 10. August 1914. The ship was hit during each mission by hostile and own (!) infantery-, M.G. and artillery fire.

Hi,
23.18 and you're still online at saturday - hascht nix besseres zu tun ? (ich auch nicht) lol

[" ... The ship was hit during each mission by hostile and own (!) infantery-, M.G. and artillery fire. ... "]

Seems to have happened a few times. I remember to have read bulgarian troops shot at L 59 on its way to Lettow-Vorbeck, and the Zeppelin had to turn around for repairs. Next time the bulgarian allies were warned in time.

Viele Grüße,
Kai/"Catfish"

Hi Kai,

"Friendly fire" must have been a real plague, especially in the first weeks of WWI! Aviators and motor balloonists of both sides must have suffered from "friendly fire" more often than we can imgaine today. German aviators did report "We feel safer if flying over the enemy side." I have anywhere a report about a German plane shot down in flames 1914 when it tried to land on the own airfield. (sic) Similar things happened on the Russian and French side in the first days of war.

Best regards
Hannes

Thumbs up Ehrenbecher - lending Hauptmann Jacobi

Hello Everyone,
I can report You that there is a clear clue for the fact that the honourary cup (Ehrenbecher) "Mlawa 10.8.1914" was lent to captain (Hauptmann) Felix Jacobi - a lending document. Because the information was passed on confidentially to me, I can say at the moment still nothing else in addition. But the statement in itself finishes the speculations whether Z IV or Z V. What remains unclear furthermore, is the reason of the lending ...

Luck off - Glück ab !

Harry
